Causes: Environment, Pollution Abatement & Control
Mission: Charge across town's mission is to help reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector by promoting the adoption of electric vehicles (evs). By moving people from fossil fuel vehicles the largest source of pollution in california and the united states to cleaner, greener forms of transportation, we can help reduce transportation-related air pollution and climate change tail-pipe emissions.
Programs: Best. Drive. Ever: for the third year, charge across town implemented the california plug-in electric vehicle collaboratives statewide ride and drive series (now veloz). Renamed in 2017 to best. Drive. Ever! , the campaign covered the entire state, holding over 15 ride and drive events, and partnering with municipalities, utility companies, clean energy partners, and ev enthusiast groups. We interacted with 1000s of people and surveyed test drivers about their perceptions of evs both pre- and post ride and drive experiences. The campaign goal is to bring test-drive events to communities across the state, measure the impact of test-driving an electric vehicle and its result in purchasing one. Results will be available from veloz in 2018.
smud drive electric ride and drive series: smuds drive electric ride and drive series provided consumers with the opportunity to get behind the wheel of eighteen different battery and plug-in electric vehicles at six different venues across the region, including a state fair and international auto show, over eight days. In addition to smuds community engagement team, the program worked closely with local automotive dealerships, oems, veloz, and the sac ev association.
ev week 2017: in its 6th year, ev week hosted its most successful event in san francisco to showcase the latest fuel cell and battery electric vehicles, and bring solar and grid charging solutions, ebikes, scooters, and advanced technology to consumers. Based on pier 27 during fleet week, we attracted 1000s of people and conducted over 500 test-drives. Our partners - pg&e, honda, nissan, bmw and california fuel cell partnership - helped make this year a great success with electric vehicle ride and drives and exhibits at venues including farmers markets and city centers. Working with local car dealerships, the environmental leaders in city government, regional and statewide organizations, helped ensure community participation at our events and in social media.
