Mission:
The mission of the Chamber Music Society of Detroit is to present chamber musicians of international stature in acoustically outstanding venues, to enrich the cultural life of the City of Detroit and the metropolitan area by promoting the appreciation of chamber music and to communicate a positive image of the region through prominence in the international chamber music community.
Programs: The core of the Chamber Music Society of Detroit's offerings is a 9-concert chamber ensemble series (Opus 9 Series) and a 3-concert piano recital series (Opus 3 Piano Series) which bring the world's most outstanding artists to metropolitan Detroit for a full September to May season each year. World-class artists, educational pre-concert talks and film, outstanding acoustics and an intimate chamber setting characterize the Chamber Music Society of Detroit series. The 2009-2010 season features another series of unparalleled performances, including concerts by such outstanding ensembles as the American String Quartet with cellist Lynn Harrell, the Tokyo String Quartet and the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet and recitals by pianists Vladimir Feltsman, Richard Goode and Emanuel Ax. Season highlights include a recital by violinist James Ehnes with pianist Jon-Kimura Parker and "A Celebration of the Bach Chaconne" featuring the distinguished violinist Arnold Steinhardt joined by actor, director and writer Alan Alda for a discussion of the background and origin of the Bach Chaconne and the performance issues raised in Mr. Steinhardt's book, Violin Dreams.
