Mission: Centro tyrone guzman is committed to the wellbeing of latino families through providing a holistic approach to education, health, and wellness

Programs: The goal of the education department is to promote literacy skills and increased access to education for low-income latino families. The department serves students from the age of 33 months in siembra montessori early learning center to adults in the adult literacy programs. Siembra montessori is a licensed, full day, dual language montessori program recognized by the association montessori internationale. Siembra provided services to 117 individuals in the 2016-17 school yearthe be@school program is a partnership with the hennepin county attorney's office and minneapolis public schools to increase school attendance. Children and their parents/caregivers, obtain information, resources and are connected with partner agencies to support academic success. In the school year 2016-17, 97 children and their parents/caregivers participated in our culturally responsive program raices youth development program provides a broad range of holistic in-school and out-of-school programs to latino youth with the goal of promoting healthy behaviors, strengthening families and supporting youth to achieve a successful future. In 2016-17 school year, 132 youth participated in the program. Adult literacy program partners with the mexican consulate in st paul, conevyt and institute of the mexicans in the exterior, to provide tutors and educational material. In 2017, 34 adult students workd towards completing their primary and/or high school education.

the health and wellness department offers a diverse range of wellness programs that provide a continuum of care in a culturally affirming environment that nourishes the heart, mind, body and spirit. The family nutrition program is designed to expand access to healthy foods for latine children and youth, while providing information and tools that help latino families adopt healthier eating habits at home. The program integrates research-based strategies into a hands-on nutrition education program specifically designed for latino families in partnership with university of minnesota extension. Parents/caregivers increase their understanding of the importance of early childhood nutrition and learn new skills and recipes for preparing health meals. In 2017, 290 individuals participated in the program. Maternal and child health and the maternal health program provides on-going support to pregnant latinas so they have a healthy pregnancy, are supported to deliver a healthy baby, and enjoy a healthy postpartum period in an environment that supports the physical and emotional needs of the mother, baby, and family. Our wide-range of support servicess include prenatal ob/gyn care provided through centering pregnancy in partnership with hennepin county; self-esteem classes; car seat education/give-away; workshops on issues critical to the health of pregnant latina women (such as hiv/aids and gestational diabetes); and post-natal information sessions. In 2017, 190 women and 774 family members participated in the program. Through nosotras women's programs, latinas and their families access health care services that support their optial health. We offer a coordinated, intergenerational system of culturally-sensitive education and support. In partnership with local health care providers, the programs address the complicated barriers the prevent low-income latinos from truly receiving the health care services they need. Staff help with health insure enrollment and facilitate workshops with a strong focus on preventative self-care. In 2017, 2,051 individuals participated in the programs. Wise elders engages latino elders in chronic disease prevention and management, social activities, and wellness activities aimed at reducing isolation, supporting independent living, and improving well-being. In 2017, 109 elders participated in the program. The wise elders families program actively engages community members in creating and sustaining an informed, safe, and respectful environment that supports the health and well-being of individuals with alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia. All caregivers accessed new resources and strengthened peer support networks.

centro tyrone guzman, in partnership with the notre dame alumni club, organize a spectacular event for families to celebrate the holidays. The event is also sponsored by the minnesota twins baseball club. In 2017, over 1,200 individuals attended the event. Children and teens received gifts provided by toys for tots and the marines. Centro tyrone guzman's annual christmas party provides a space for children and their families to enjoy the spirit of the season. For the 14th consecutive year we have worked in partnership with the notre dame alimni club, toys for tots, and the marines, to celebrate the holidays with over 680 children and their families.
