Central Scholarship made college possible for me and countless other students. I have received a grant every year of my undergraduate career thanks to the amazing generosity of this program. I cannot overstate the positive impact Central Scholarship has had on my life. Not only did that first acceptance letter I received in 2012 allow me to attend Maryland's flagship university, it also gave me the confidence to apply to many more scholarships and grants. I have received the Gilman Scholarship and PPIA Princeton JSI as well as several grants from UMD. I never would have had the strength to try had it not been for Central Scholarship; I never would have gone to Chengdu, China or Princeton University and experienced great personal growth. Thank you, Central Scholarship, for kickstarting my life. The picture is from a silly moment with my mom after Central Scholarship's 2015 Annual Student Awards Ceremony in my hometown, Baltimore.
In a time, when it was unusual, I was a single mom and sole support of two young children. In order to maintain my job as a public librarian, I needed to enroll both kids into a preschool, which provided transportation. This was neither easy nor inexpensive! Desperately, I applied to Central Scholarship for help. Throughout the interview process, the advisors were caring and supportive and located a nearby private, Jewish day school and provided both tuition aide and transportation for my son and daughter. This assistance continued until both children could attend public schools. I am forever grateful to Central Scholarship for their timely generosity.
Through unfortunate circumstances, my ex-daugher-in-law recently found herself in similar difficulties. Her marriage to my son ended and he relocated to Florida and was supporting a second family. Her two boys were bright and worked very hard to achieve academic success in school. Their mother struggled with a number of health issues and simply could not handle college tuition costs. Their father (my son) was unable to be of much help. Twenty-five years later, the boys' mom followed my exact path to the welcoming agency, Central Scholarship. Working with a most capable advisor, my grandsons were able to combine academic scholarships with financial assistance from Central Scholarship, and are now enrolled in their freshman year at American University and junior/senior years in Johns Hopkins pre-medical program.
Who says, "Lightening cannot strike twice?" Thank you Central Scholarship.
Two grandsons, single mom with major health issues, out-of-state father with second family to support. Familiar elements which normally could easily lead to poor and indifferent academic performance. Not as demonstrated by Parker and Carson.
Is the family situation hopeless? No, the maternal grandparents have taken the family in and provides them with a stable , but, basic home life. The paternal grandparents have provided academic stimulation and assistance in managing their meager monetary situation. How, then, is Carson looking forward to his freshman year at American University, and his brother, Parker, to completing his medical studies at Johns Hopkins University with a specialization in Dentistry?
The answer to that is the boys have never let their financial woes interfere with their academic goals! Parker has consistently been inducted into the National Honor Society and Carson has added musical studies at Peabody Preparatory to his academic calendar, and has performed regularly with his high school orchestra.
We have discussed familial support and self discipline leading to these boys' academic achievement. However there has been additional support spanning two generations that is, as yet, unmentioned. Central Scholarship Bureau has always been has been there for our family when needed. I (maternal grandmother) once found myself a single mom needing assistance to provide schooling for my three and two year old children whIle I was pursuing a career as school librarian in the Baltimore City Public Schools. Advised by my counselor at Jewish Family Services, I applied to Central Scholarship. This agency then made private, pre-school education available to my children until they were of an age when attendance in public school allowed us compatible schedules. Central Scholarship provided me with a lifeline then, and, now almost forty years later, they are doing the same for my teen aged grandchildren.
One can only imagine how many other children have been helped by this philanthropic agency.
Thank You, Central Scholarship Bureau!
I serve on the Board of Central Scholarship and am continually impressed with the dogged determination the staff show in making sure to get through as many scholarship applications as possible so that deserving kids can have their needs met so that they can pursue higher education - truly awe-inspiring.
I have served as a Board Member for a little over a year.
The organization is well staffed - CS staff work tirelessly to assist students with understanding their obligations related to higher education, with affording the costs of attendance and also to advocate to lawmakers on behalf of students.
CS Board members are a diverse (lawyers, accountants, higher education officials, etc.) and sharp group of individuals that keep pushing the mission of the Organization and also keep a watchful eye over the Organization to preserve its financial footing.
It is a great organization that provides wonderful service to its clients. Central Scholarships primarily focuses on assisting students from low-income or underserved communities access higher education with scholarships, free-interest student loans, and other financial assistance such as college financial and decision-making. The work of Central Scholarships is golden and its financial assistance to underprivileged students is priceless.
I greatly appreciate the financial education and assistance received from Central Scholarship over the years. The organization does not only provide scholarships and free-interest loans, it also gives financial education through its annual financial seminars for high school students in the Fall/Winter and college students/graduates in the summer. These seminars have been a great source of information about scholarships, grants, and other financial aid assistance from other organizations including private and public institutions for college students. My only regret is that I learned about Central Scholarship while in college and did not have the opportunity to participate in their previous college financial aid seminars. Moreover, as a first-generation college student, navigating through the financial aid process and means of paying for college was daunting for me and my family, but being part of Central Scholarship’s annual seminar alleviated most of that burden as they provided information on resources outside their organization to assist me.
As an undergraduate, I attended a small liberal art college in Maryland and the cost of attendance was huge. Thanks to Central Scholarship’s financial assistance and its staff directing me to other financial resources including local and state grants as well as private scholarships from other organizations I never knew existed. Without such help, it would have been difficult to continue my education and might have dropped out of school, but their monetary support saw me through graduation. As a current graduate student, the scholarship provided by this organization has alleviated my financial anxiety and helped me focus on my academics rather than means of paying for my education. The scholarship also assisted me to reduce my working hours to take up an internship opportunity that will allow me to gain work experience and greatly improve my employment prospects. I am deeply grateful to all the staff at Central Scholarship for their commitment and dedication to assisting students like us to realize our dreams by lessening our academic financial burdens.
I am a volunteer who has reviewed applications from graduate students applying for scholarships awarded by this organization. The criteria is well defined and the process for applicants quite humane. This is an outstanding organization that has continued to grow, reach out to the community, and offer a much needed service.
Central Scholarship changed the course of my life. Without their support, I would not have been able to pursue or complete a college degree. That college degree has opened up pathways for me to advance my career in the field of higher education. Now, I work full-time at a University, supporting student programs focused on social impact and social change. Because of what Central Scholarship was able to do for me, I can now work to support other students in discovering their passion, their purpose, and ultimately, leading lives to contribute to our society in deep, meaningful ways.
I am a first-generation graduate from a low-income family. In high school, I worked evenings, weekends, and during the summer. Even though I had saved each paycheck, I still did not have enough to pay for my tuition, supplies, and housing in full. Central Scholarship's supports drastically decreased the loans I needed to withdraw, and, only a short 2 years out of school, I was debt free. Because of this, my lifestyle will be different. The work I pursue is different. My giving and service is different. Having the burden of debt, and the gift of a college degree, has allowed me to give back in my work and personal life. I hope one day to give back to Central Scholarship so that they can continue their mission and the wonderful work they do.
I am a professional who has volunteered with Central Scholarship for the past several years. It is an extremely well-run organization with a clear, well-articulated mission. Its scholarship application process is efficient and clearly presented for prospective recipients and their families. As a well-publicized nonprofit, Central Scholarship receives applications from a wide mix of deserving students at the undergraduate and graduate school levels. I would encourage students looking to further their education to check out their website, attend outreach sessions and/or confer with school counselors to see if applying to Central Scholarship could be option for them. There are interest-free loans and scholarships available as well as financial support for vocational training. I encourage students and their families to consider checking out Central Scholarship when looking for financial support to attend college and/or graduate school. Central Scholarship is a solid organization that helps to build success in our Maryland communities.
Thank you again to the team at Central Scholarship. They are true to their stated mission of enabling driven individuals who would like to "go higher" in their education to do so. Recognizing the high dividends of investing in promising students' education, they have created an accessible program that financially allows hundreds of students to focus and reach their ambitious academic goals. As a personal example, Central Scholarship has continuously been supporting my family of five as my wife and I both embark on and travel along our graduate and post-graduate education. We deeply feel that without the help of Central Scholarship, our professional development would have been much more difficult to attain. Investing in Central Scholarship is clearly an investment in the future of society at large!
Thank you so much Central Scholarship! This generous funding has helped me tremendously as I pursue my graduate education. Warmest wishes that you can successfully continue to assist the many Maryland students who depend on your scholarships and interest-free loans.
I am lucky enough to have been chosen to receive a scholarship through Central Scholarship two years in a row! The donors, administrators, and all involved at Central Scholarship have been warm, helpful, and welcoming at all points throughout applying for and receiving the award.
Central Scholarship is an organization run by wonderful people who made the decision to assist me more than once in my academic career. I received a scholarship award from Central Scholarship in 2012 after graduating high school and attending college as a first-generation student. The Central Scholarship team appreciated my story and genuinely believed in my ability to excel academically. After starting a family, I took some time off school, and eventually transferred to Towson University where I am now an accounting major and master's in accounting candidate. Again, the people at Central Scholarship trusted in my journey and awarded me two scholarships to finish school. As a single mother I am beyond grateful for the organization's support over the years, and I hope that it continues to help students achieve higher education.
Central Scholarship made a Master's of Social Work possible for me. Their scholarships are strategically targeted in the areas with the most need, to make the most impact on the Baltimore community. I appreciated not only the financial support but also professional network my scholarship provided, and as a result I am more than happy in my new career.
I first encountered Central Scholarship as a high school senior, looking for scholarships to help close my financial aid gap for my dream college. A high school counselor told me about Central Scholarship and their new scholarship for students at my high school. I applied and after going through a thoughtful interview process, I became first recipient of the Wagner Family Scholarship.
Not only did the scholarship help me meet the cost of attendance for my school, but it also provided me with people that cared about my success and my goals. The staff at Central Scholarship were invested in my success and often checked in with me to make sure that I was doing okay in school.
Seven years later, I was offered the privilege to serve on the board of Central Scholarship. I quickly learned that this organization deeply committed to its mission. Whether its through their advocacy efforts to fight against award displacement at schools in Maryland or through its efforts to help high school students and parents understand financial aid, Central Scholarship strives to empower students to achieve their educational dreams. The staff and board take our roles seriously, as evidenced by our lively meetings where we discuss the pressing issues facing our students and what we should be doing to address them.
I'm proud to be a member of the Central Scholarship family and I look forward to continuing to help them meet the educational needs of students in Maryland for years to come.
I'm so grateful to the Central Scholarship Foundation for supporting my Masters in Education from Johns Hopkins University. Their scholarships and interest-free loans truly open the doors to people from different backgrounds and make it that EVERYONE can have access to higher education.
Central Scholarship does a tremendous job at helping students reach their higher education goals in Maryland. They also provide scholarship to people seeking vocational and career training certification - a mission element that I never thought of. They are truly working to help all people in Maryland reach their highest potential!
Central scholarship workshops have been so informative and helpful. I have also been awarded a interest free loan, and feel supported in my education. Thank you central scholarship!
Central Scholarship helped me through 4 years of school. I've received multiple scholarships and an interest free loan. The staff is amazing, hard working, and kind. They do so much to help students succeed. I wouldn't be where I am without them.
The first time I applied for a scholarship from Central Scholarship I didn't get one but I tried again the next year and received a great one. The staff at Central Scholarship was so helpful and quick to respond. I liked that there was the option to live chat with someone during business hours. They make it so easy to get in touch. The interview process was simple and easy. I loved that scholarship recipients were invited to an awards reception and actually got to meet their scholarship donor. This was such a great experience and it made it even more personal. I am so grateful to Central Scholarship and my scholarship donor. School was so much more affordable this year. I would definitely do it again.
Central scholarship has helped me greatly financially over the past few years. I appreciate all their hard and dedicated work!!
How much good Central Scholarship does by helping students who are struggling to pay for post-secondary education is remarkable. They know that more and more students are finding it near impossible to pay for school, or if they are able to pay for it, they must take on loads of debt and work part-time jobs to the detriment of their education. Through the scholarships, grants, and interest-free loans that Central Scholarship provides, they are helping to remove that much more of the burden of financing a U.S. post-secondary education and allowing so many more people the opportunity to reach new heights academically. They have done this for me, and for that, I shall always be grateful. Central Scholarship will always be one of the most important parts of my story about how I could have not made it without the help of others.
Central Scholarship has given me a scholarship for the last two years. They treat me like a member of a family. I will always be grateful for their help in making it through college.
Central Scholarship is an excellent non-profit organization that provides educational scholarships and student financial aid to students. I have been fortunate to have been chosen as a recipient of the Straus Foundation Scholars Grant throughout my undergraduate studies. This scholarship opportunity has assisted me tremendously, and i hold heartfelt regards for organizations such as Central Scholarship. It is a honor to be granted the award that has made my academic funding less of a burden during my school term.
I pledge to work hard and eventually give something back to others, both as a physical therapist and possibly a scholarship to future students like myself.
Central Scholarship has such a noble mission. They are there to help college students get through college. They really care about all the students they help and are so proud of us when we reach our milestones. It's one thing to give someone money, it's a much bigger kindness to give someone a job. In essence, this is what Central Scholarship does. They help students on the path to their career, which will help in so many ways, and for generations to come.
Central Scholarship is a full service scholarship organization. Besides for providing such helpful funding, they are also always there to help and take pride in all the successes of each individual. I am so grateful to Central Scholarship for being there for me throughout my years in college, which I attended while raising 4 young children. Thank you, CS!!!
