Mission: The mission of the center for rural psychology is to serve the mental health needs of underserved rural communities through research, consultation, and training.
Programs: In fy 2011, the center for rural psychology shifted its focus from training to research. In collaboration with the phillips county hospital, we were awarded a hrsa grant to study the mental health needs of phillips county, mt, and to recommend cost-effective means of meeting those needs. In january 2011, crp researchers travelled to montana to conduct qualitative interviews with a wide variety of phillips county residents. In may, we held a stakeholders conference where we outlined our results and discussed them with residents and experts from northeastern montana. A community care coalition was formed which hopes to implement our proposals. In september we presented our final report to hrsa. Program service expenses include fees paid to independent contractors for the montana research, travel to montana, supplies needed for the research.
as of august 4, 2011 we closed our award-winning training program and shuttered the doors of heartland counseling, divesting ourselves of its physical assets (office furniture and equipment). Program service expenses include fees paid to clinical staff for work performed prior to this fiscal year but for which fees were collected during this fiscal year. No clinical work was actually performed this fiscal year. Note: crp retains ownership of heartland's medical records, which are in secure storage until we are legally able to securely dispose of them.
