Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Education, Scholarships, Scholarships & Student Financial Aid, Undergraduate Colleges

Mission: The CDR Stuhr Scholarship Fund for Military Sons and Daughters was founded 1965 by CDR William S. Stuhr, USN and several other military officers, both active duty and retired. The Stuhr Fund is the only privately supported, international scholarship exclusively devoted to aiding families of each of the five Services. Each year the Stuhr Fund awards five scholarships to high school seniors of active duty or retired career military members, both enlisted personnel and officers of the five branches of the U.S. Armed Services worldwide. Many students and parents have commented on the honor of winning the Stuhr Scholarship award, as the students know they were chosen not only for academic excellence, but also strong leadership abilities, community service, and future goals. This manifests itself with more then 9-out-of-10 making their dean’s list each year, and receiving academic honors. The awards also honor their parents, the Military Services, and ultimately the United States. The winners attend well-known institutions such as Harvard, Princeton, M.I.T., UCLA, Duke, etc., and a large number have already started in careers that will probably lead them to national recognition. Our aim is to become the Rhodes Scholarship of the military community.
