This is a fabulous festival and so are the people who run it. We always look forward to viewing the artistic and innovative scarecrows every year! Some years, we have even participated in the scarecrow building workshops, which are fun and very informative. In the years that we don't have time to build our own, the scarecrow people always bring us one to display in front of our restaurant. If you have never been, we highly recommend visiting Cambria in October to see the scarecrows. You will not be disappointed!
I’ve been volunteering for the Cambria Scarecrow Festival since 2017, and I absolutely love it. I had no experience doing any kind of arts or crafts when I started, but the more experienced scarecrow makers showed me what to do and how to do it. Every year I learned more and kept trying new things. Now I’m the Dr. Crow coordinator. Dr. Crow volunteers repair and refresh the previous year’s scarecrows. We doctor them. We also make brand new scarecrows. It’s so much fun. Everyone is so nice, non competitive, and helpful. We have lots of laughs and make some pretty cool scarecrows in the process. The picture is of me with Mister Ed, my scarecrow horse.
Cambria Scarecrow Festival volunteers, many who are artists, are friendly, dedicated and collaborative. A community-run organization with lots of heart and goodwill, supporting this annual art exhibition has been an absolute pleasure. The board is actively engaged with the local artists to produce a free art exhibition that delights residents, business owners and tourists. A wholesome experience tinged with whimsy and full of fun.
We live in San Luis Obispo and go up to the October-long "Cambria Scarecrow Festival" 2 or 3 times every year. The "boys" and their families come from Atascadero and meet us at Cambria Nursery and we have a BLAST checking out the hundreds of weird and whimsical creations scattered all around town (and nearby towns too!)
Check it out! It's "Da BOMB"!
This was my first year as a volunteer at the festival and it has really been a fun and joyful experience for me. It's been such a great experience being able to work with other creative people who are very supportive and encouraging. Knowing that the work I do for the festival brings business and joy into the community is a very heart warming.
A volunteer opportunity like no other.
Experience making fun works of art in the form of scarecrows and working with the artists who create them. Once up for the month of October, see the happiness and smiles they bring to so many people who come to see them, and the businesses that support them.
What makes this non-profit even better is the support it brings to schools and the communities of Cambria and San Simeon.
I started with this non-profit by participating in 2 FREE scarecrow making projects. That was so much fun! I mean, what creative person wouldn't love to take part in making something and have all the supplies and guidance they could dream of. My involvement grew from there and I discovered that all of the volunteers and board members are so positive, encouraging and easy to work with. Now I'm on the board handling the social media for the festival and really enjoy working with all of the individuals. They are so receptive to new ideas and professional.
