Mission: To provide a forum for combining the expertise and resources of its member agencies to advance reliable, high-quality water supplies for the state's current and future urban water needs in a cost-effective manner for the public, the environment and the economy.
Programs: Water accessibility and affordability: provide leadership to the growing statewide challenges of water accessibility (including access to safe drinking water supplies for all californians) and affordability by bringing creative ideas and approaches to the forefront for statewide discussion. Analyze data on water quality violations to define and quantify the issue and explore solutions.
water reuse: engage in technical and policy water reuse issues, including working with watereuse california and other water/wastewater associations to track implications of proposed reuse legislation and provide comments and to develop recommendations for a potable reuse operator training and certification program. Explore the feasibility of using stormwater as a water supply and develop a white paper.
planning and conservation: engage in state water planning efforts to help ensure that the urban water perspective is represented. Advance the state of the knowledge of progressive water management and promote application of strategies that will meet urban water needs in an efficient and environmentally responsible manner, while planning for an uncertain future. Develop technical and policy information and recommendations to reflect the cuwa board's priorities regarding water use efficiency and water supply reliability.
