Mission: The mission of calhipso is to partner with california's clinical providers to transform health care delivery through the effective use of technology to achieve high-quality, efficient health care services.
Programs: Calhipso is a not-for-profit organization founded by the california primary care association (cpca), the california medical association (cma) and the california association of public hospitals and health systems (caph). As one of 62 federally designated regional extension centers (rec), calhipso's primary objective is to enable safety-net providers -- community health centers, small/solo private providers in practices of fewer than ten physicians, and public hospital providers--to successfully adopt electronic health records and use health information technology to improve quality, promote efficiency and reduce health care costs. Calhipso is the awardee of a $35+ million arra hitech grant to provide ehr adoption services to over 6,000 eligible clinician professionals and 40 critical access rural hospitals for successful achievement of stage 1 meaningful use. Enrollment continued to an additional 1000 eligible professionals and and over 5,000 earned stage 3 meaningful use. These services are delivered to 56 of california's 58 counties (excluding orange and la counties) through a network of 10 local extension centers strategically selected and positioned to serve calhipso's eligible practice and hospital population.
