Mission: The buildingcommunityworkshop is a dallas based nonprofit community design center seeking to improve the livability and viability of communities through the practice of thoughtful design and making. We enrich the lives of citizens by bringing design thinking to areas of our city where the resources are most scarce. To do so, the buildingcommunityworkshop recognizes that it must first understand the social, economic, and environmental issues facing a community before beginning work.
Programs: During 2017, bcw worked on affordable house design through its sustainablehouse initiative, multifamily and disaster recovery housing in dallas (tx), brownsville (tx), houston (tx)and washington dc. Also in 2017, bcw continued work on creative placemaking projects in urban and rural areas in texas, washington dc, west virginia and north carolina. Bcanalytics continued to use a data driven process for internal work and to serve other nonprofits in north texas. The bcfellows program provided a one year entry position to work in public interest design.
