Causes: Community Coalitions
Mission: To educate the public, elected officials and their staffs as to how to make cities healthy by incorporating mixed use, green space, safe streets, clean water and prospering downtowns into their regulations.
Programs: In 2014, sgp provided free technical assistance to five cities to show them where in their regulations they could make changes to achieve healthy cities. Eleven cities in broward county were introduced to this smart growth concept, and six worked with the organization to understand how their regulations could be amended. We also held one educational event in cooperation with nova se university to bring in speakers to continue the education of the public, the elected officials and their staffs. The event brought in approximately 50 participants.
