As Program Director for HCI College's Veterinary Assisting Program, I cannot thank Bob, Debbie and the rest of the F.R.I.E.N.D.S Staff for their constant support! Our students are always eager to get their hands dirty and be out on the field providing much needed TLC to the patients on site. The staff has always shown top-notch patience and guidance with our students as they teach them how to properly clean out stalls, Large-animal restraint, Different nutritional requirements and much more! Our students are asking when they are able to return and I know we are always welcome. The pictures do not provide the level of dedication they have to these animals justice. Thank you for all you do!
There is so much work that comes with horses but the people at F.R.I.E.N.D.S. ALWAYS get it done thanks to their caring members, sponsors and volunteers. What and awesome team.
I believe Debbie is the third generation of loving family who so diligently work to help animals who would otherwise be euthanized. The hardships and struggles finding and keeping property for them, and reliable volunteers, "owners" and DONORS is real!! To their credit they've persevered many decades now. I'm proud to know them and prayerful that folks will do what they can to help out.

Debbie's family have her taking care of horses and other animals for generations! They have stressed and suffered for years all too often desperate to find land when pushed out by "progress". Each time they must start over, rebuild, figure out the inevitable issues that need to be addressed. Without F.R.I.E.N.D.S. so many healthy animals would be euthanized for no truly good reason. I pray that this exceptional, loving charity will be able to continue for many more generations! God bless this family, all volunteers and donors!!!
F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is a heart warming place for horses and people. You should definitely go and volunteer with them because it is truly a hidden gem and a humbling experience. There are lots of places to rent or lease horses in the area, but this place offers you the opportunity to get to know the horses and spend quality time interacting with them. There is a lot of work to do, but at the end of the day you can see how important it is to give your time and how much of a difference you made in just one day. These animals are very well cared for and they each have a different personality.
I cherish being a F.R.I.E.N.D.S. volunteer and wish I could spend more than one day a week there. I work 50 hours a week and look forward to my Saturdays at the ranch. It's an opportunity to spend time in the solitude of nature with these magnificent horses. Is it hard work? For sure! But you can't ask for a better workout in a better environment. Where else can you interact with horses, meet new people, make new friends, and get something important accomplished at the same time?
For over 38 years, the ranch has been rescuing horses where they have their forever home. They've been stealing the hearts of many, and they will steal your heart, too - each one with their own personality and story.
I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the regular volunteers who show up every week. We've built a caring community where our safety and the horses always come first. Everyone helps each other ensuring the horse stalls and isles are clean so the horses can live in a healthy environment. I especially enjoy seeing the younger volunteers taking responsibility and pride in caring for the horses. For some, this is their first time interacting with horses.
If you're looking for someplace outdoors, working alongside horses with people who care and take time to help you, I highly recommend volunteering at F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

I have been a Saturday volunteer for over three years, and these magnificent horses have become part of my life. I’ll never forget the first day I volunteered – so many horses and I was surprised at how well-kept the ranch was, and how healthy the horses were. Everything was (and is) so organized, too. That's not what I was expecting. Now I know why - Debbie and Bobby give horses a forever home and treat them with love, compassion, and safety. I’ve seen horses arrive emaciated or injured and have witnessed each week how strong they become. This wouldn’t be possible without their leadership, the board, donors, and volunteers.
Why am I a F.R.I.E.N.D.S. volunteer? 1) Fresh air, peace and quiet, and the tranquility of being with the horses. 2) Interacting with the horses while I’m cleaning their stalls. 3) A feeling of accomplishment and knowing I did something to keep the horses healthy (clean stalls = healthy hoofs = healthy horses). 4) Opportunities to learn something new each visit. Bobby is always open to sharing his knowledge when I ask (and I ask a lot of questions some weeks). 5) Grooming horses - they appreciate the attention. 6) Meet, work with, and learn from like-minded volunteers. 7) Appreciation and safety – Bobby and Debbie appreciate their volunteers, even if they only have time to clean one or two stalls or they’ve never been around horses, there’s always a sincere “thank you.” 8) Sharing the equine world with kids doing their community service hours – especially the ones who have never been around horses. 9) Cleaning horse stalls is a fantastic workout!
It takes a community of volunteers to care for a ranch with over 50 equines, 6 pigs, 3 goats, and 2 sheep. If what I’ve written resonates with you, then you should volunteer here, too!

Thank you so much for the glowing review Leslie! This review is from the heart and we truly appreciate you sharing your experience at F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Horse Rescue (Florida Research Institute for Equine Nurturing, Development & Safety) is a great organization because it provides a lifelong sanctuary for rescued horses that might otherwise face neglect, abandonment, or slaughter. Unlike some rescues that adopt horses out, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is a full-care facility where the animals can live out their lives in a safe and loving environment.
The rescue also benefits the community by offering volunteer opportunities, educational programs, and equine-assisted therapy, which can be incredibly healing for people dealing with trauma, disabilities, or mental health challenges. Their commitment to both horse welfare and community support makes them an essential organization for equine.
Please support or visit the rescue.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S. horse rescue is one of the most rewarding places to volunteer. You have as much hands-on work as you’d like, or can take a hands-off approach if that’s what you prefer. There’s always plenty for everyone to do. The animals that come to the ranch often arrive in deplorable condition: emaciated, overgrown hooves, skin conditions, and afraid of people and other animals. It is fascinating to see how quickly they thrive in the hands of this ranch. They are given care, comfort, nutrition and whatever support they need to become the animal they were meant to be. And they get to live out their lives in the comfort of this environment and never be ‘traded’ to another ranch. I would strongly encourage you to spend a day at this ranch. You will quickly fall in love with the place and the animals!

Great place to volunteer. Enjoy the fresh air and burn calories while taking care of magnificent animals that appreciate the attention. Every bit of your time is appreciated, even if you can only stay an hour. Please put this on your to-do list.
I cannot express enough how transformative my experience at this Horse Rescuer Sanctuary has been. From the moment I stepped onto the ranch, I was welcomed into a world where I learned not only about horses but also about pigs, donkeys, sheep, and goats. Volunteering here has been an incredibly enriching journey that goes beyond just caring for these beautiful animals; it has fostered teamwork skills and a sense of community among fellow volunteers. The outdoor activities provided a refreshing escape from the chaos of daily life. Helping to ensure that the rescued animals have a clean, nurturing environment—complete with cleaning horse stalls, cleaning all animals waters buckets providing clean fresh water, watching the joy and fun time of horses when going to pasture, grooming the horses and bathing horses when they need, playing/feeding Oreo (lovely girl adult pig)and specially Laz (most funny and attitude young boy pig); listening the donkies calling you for treats or food and once you give to them they stop calling you (most funny dramatic lovely Earnie and Eyoree); watching the goats, shep play and interacting in team work with the ranch team and volunteers —has filled my soul with positivity and rejuvenation. This sanctuary has become a place where I can recharge my mental health and attitude, making it easier to tackle the distractions of my busy week. Interacting with the horses, in particular, has been a profound experience. They have taught me invaluable lessons about love, loyalty, and self-acceptance. These majestic creatures don’t care about your appearance, your job title, or your past; they love you for who you truly are. Each encounter serves as a mirror, reflecting back to me insights about my journey and aspirations. What sets this sanctuary apart is that it’s not just a refuge for animals, but a home where they can heal and rediscover their amazing worth. It's both humbling and inspiring to witness how these horses, despite their pasts, allow us to care for and love them. It’s a unique bond that fosters a sense of family among the animals and volunteers alike. I sponsor one horse, but it feels as if I have formed a connection with each and every one of them. I wholeheartedly recommend this sanctuary to anyone looking to learn more about themselves, their children, and the importance of giving back. The invaluable lessons about compassion and service are something that can be shared with family and friends to build a better society and re learn about kind and service. Volunteering here fills your heart with love and joy from these amazing animals, making it a truly unique and rewarding experience.

I volunteer for this Horse Rescuer Ranch and there are not enough words to describe the amazing Majestic Horses, Donkeys, Pigs, Goats and Sheep that are there. Helping the barn with chores such as cleaning stalls, cleaning horses' water and then sharing time with an assigned horse for grooming time, bring joy to your life and a sense of dare to give to others in need, in this case to rescued animals. If you want to give to your children/teens or to an adult a sense of kind, love, commitment and service that are skills for life, then please think and come to F.R.I.E.N.D.S Horse Rescue Ranch.
A true escape from the hustle and bustle of life's everyday stresses. FRIENDS has been in existence for close to 4 decades and they have been a sanctuary for horses that would have otherwise been euthanized. They also are a sanctuary for other farm animals. People love coming out to experience being with and seeing the different animals not often seen so close to an urban setting. They give back so much to the community around them with volunteer programs for groups and individuals and other annual events. They have a program for children to introduce them to the miniature horses at the ranch. It is a very worthwhile place to become involved with and to give your time to. I can't wait to go back there again!
If you are looking for an organization that will use every volunteer hour and dollar for these horses to live their best possible life, you have found it! The warm folks here at FRIENDS educate people on horse care as well. You can even sponsor your very own horse. Because no one takes a salary, you can be confident that all your donations are going to take care of the horses and their forever home. This group of people are honestly doing all this for the the love of horses.

Not only does FRIENDS rescue, and provide care for, horses (oh and some lovable goats and cats) but they also provide benefits to the community. Students from nearby schools can volunteer at the ranch to meet graduation requirements, the Magical Mini's bring joy to the youngest of riders, and other educational opportunities all open to the general public. The best thing is the folks here are so willing to share their knowledge and teach the novice how to care for these majestic creatures. Love this place!!
I really enjoyed my time here. Everyone is so nice and cares for the animals. I came in knowing nothing about horses but I’ve learned so much about EIA and the care of a horse.
It gives me a piece of mind that these animals have a forever home at a sanctuary.
This place is amazing. I feel lucky that I have had the opportunity to see FRIENDS "morph", grow, and change into what it is today. Over the last 30 years, there have been thousands of people that have come to volunteer or sponsor a horse. Some things have changed, but when people leave or move away, then they come back years later to see the horses, or if there were any of the horses they knew, were still alive, they all say the same things. I still feels like home, and they tell the people that are there now how much they've missed the place. They missed the horses, the safe hide away where they always had fun, and how they felt like they grew up there. For as much as the people did for the horses, they all say they got so much more from the horses they helped care for and loved. If it has been a minute since you've been out, make time to come by soon.

I was introduced to this organization in 1996 and I have seen them grow and evolve in leaps and bounds. The care of the horses is what it's all about and they look amazing. Their goal is to care for each and every horse and to make them flourish. They have the full support of their sponsors and members who make it all happen. The people care so much, invest their time and efforts to make this the BEST HORSE RESCUE in BROWARD COUNTY. They do a GREAT JOB.
This is a fabulous organization. The volunteers jump to make everything as perfect as possible for the horses. They just came up with a new program called "The Grooming Squad" which is just as the title indicates. This program is every other Saturday. Another new program is going to be "Mommy and Me Days" (top secret)". These programs are going to be so exciting and lots of people with enjoy them.
I have been associated with FRIENDS since 1986 and got my first horse, Thunder there. He was perfect for me, as I was a novice. When I joined there were 112 horses on 100 acres at the ranch I cannot tell you how much fun t was to ride alone or with the other members....we would ride all day. There were lots of little kids and teenagers. It was a great benefit to parents because their teenagers were safe. None of those teenager got into trouble, smoked or drank!!!
When a horse was sick everyone would join together to assist and when the Vet would come, it was an experience that everyone joined in. We were like one big family. We joined together and ran a food stand at a horse show, to make money for the horses...everyone helped.
These were some of the happiest times of my life. I had wanted a horse since I was a kid but living in a city, made it impossible. I am grateful for every experience I had at the ranch and the vast amount of knowledge I gained.
Go there...have fun...make some fond memories like I did.

I have been associated with FRIENDS since 1985 or 1986 and it is our life long goal to provide a great place for horses who have reacted positive to the Coggins test, are abused, injured or in need of a safe place. We have a fabulous team of volunteers that spend countless hours caring for these horses and working around the ranch. You can easily learn the meaning of true love at our ranch.
I have been going to Friends for almost a year now and this is one of the best places I’ve ever been here in Florida.
I missed so much been around horses and having this experience and exchange with those incredible animals.
Finally there, I found a peaceful place for my soul, where I can donate my love and receive so much in return.
All of the volunteers, specially Lesley and Bob make such a difference in those beautiful creatures life’s and mine.
They’re always concerned about their health, wellbeing and not just them, but they take care of the volunteers as well making sure that everyone has proper training when handling the horses.
It’s been such a dream to be a part of this community and to be able to connect to the horses but specially Ernie and Eeyore the two donkeys we have now.
They amaze me everyday with their intelligence and kindness.
My experience as a volunteer has been truly fulfilling. The commitment of the sanctuary to saving and caring for these magnificent animals is evident in every aspect of their operation.
The sanctuary's primary focus on horse rescue is admirable, providing a safe haven for horses that may have faced neglect, abuse, or other challenging circumstances. The dedication of the staff and volunteers to the well-being of these animals is palpable, creating a loving and supportive environment.
One of the standout features of F.R.I.E.N.D.S is the opportunity for volunteers to actively participate in the daily care of the horses. The hands-on experience not only allows for a deeper connection with these animals but also contributes to their overall well-being. The staff is knowledgeable and always willing to share information, making the volunteering experience both educational and enjoyable.
Love being at the stables -- I have made some great friends that will have for life; learned a lot (horses are wonderful teachers - about patience, compassion, leadership, teamwork, understanding, strength, vulnerability, confidence, communication...), and had some solid workouts (whether mucking a stall or grooming a horse, you leave feeling better than if you'd gone to the gym!). I have grown so much from my time spent at FRIENDS and look forward to many more years volunteering there.

Love this rescue. The owners, Bobby and Debbie, offer a home to so many horses (and goats, pigs, donkeys, and even a hinny) that wouldn't otherwise find a place to live out their years. Open four days a week for volunteering, it is also a great place for high schoolers to get in their credit hours. Great place to get a workout cleaning stalls, as well as finding a few new four-legged friends.
This is a fantastic organization. All of the equines: horses, mini's, donkeys, mule, etc. are taken care of very well. The volunteers love the animals and it shows. They are well-nourished, get medical care regularly, and are groomed and cleaned. What a wonderful place for these magnificent animals to finish out their final years. These horses are not expected to work or perform for the rest of their natural lives; all they have to do is eat and enjoy life. It is truly a blessing to be able to spend time at this ranch. Please come out and get to know them; you will have a favorite very soon, I'm sure!

I volunteer at the FRIENDS horse rescue and sanctuary once a week. It is so rewarding to work with these big, but gentle animals. I would not want to think about what would happen to all of these beautiful creatures without the loving care and support provided to them by the FRIENDS organization. They are fed and watered, have medical attention paid whenever needed, and are provided with lots of love and tenderness. FRIENDS is a wonderful institution which, I hope, continues on into perpetuity.
I have been volunteering at F.R.I.E.N.D.S for almost two years now, and I truly love this place! Not only are the animals very happy and taken care of, but the owners and other volunteers are so nice as well.
They have about 48 horses, 2 donkeys, 1 hinny, 3 goats, 4 potbelly pigs, and 2 farm pigs and they are all so happy. They are fed twice a day, and the horses are let out into the pastures as well.
The vet comes out regularly, as well as a lady that shaves the horses when their winter coat gets too thick, and Bobbie does their feet regularly as well, he is a farrier. In the two years I’ve been there, I’ve seen a group of vet students come out once every semester to get some hands on experience. It’s so nice knowing that they can come to the rescue to further their studies.
There are lots of volunteers that have been coming for years, so they are very knowledgeable and they understand the horses that are here. I’ve always felt very good around them, and they treat the horses with so much love, which is what they all deserve!!
This is a great place to volunteer and learn about horses and taking care of them. Everyone is welcome, regardless of the experience. It really is a great place to volunteer! I go every Tuesday and if I didn’t live so far away, I would be there every single day!

We'd love to have you every day! Thank you so much for your kind review. We truly appreciate your efforts and choosing to help the horses.
My son was afraid of horses but wanted to face that fear. We found this organization and volunteered. The care and hard work to maintain the animals in their care is extraordinary! The volunteers and those who manage the facility deserve nothing but praise. My son now volunteers here on a weekly basis and is no longer afraid of these magnificent animals. He wanted me to say that he wished more people would come to volunteer to help. Go out and see for yourself! You will not be disappointed. It is a worthwhile use of your time.

horserescuer 02/29/2024
We are so glad to have your help and confidence in our programs. We love having your son so eager to learn more about horses, and all his hard work. We hope he continues to come for a long time.
I volunteered at this rescue for almost ten years. I witnessed very poor care for the horses and if I or anyone else questioned or offered to help we were quickly shown the door. If you go to or are volunteering at this facility please notice if anyone there (other than the owners) has any horse knowledge. No one does, because the owners do not let anyone into the ranch with knowledge or experience and they run off anyone who starts to understand they are operating a shady business. It is suppose to be an EIA research facility, during the time I was there they disallowed any vet or program from stepping on the grounds. Also question where your donations are going. Is there a board? Where can you find financials? During my time, every member and volunteer was forced to leave for asking for transparency and trying to help make the ranch better and horses healthier and happier.

horserescuer 10/19/2023
If you volunteered, you would have used your own name. Anyone that comes out can see the animals are well cared for & healthy. We welcome all, experienced or not. However, because we have over 50 horses, we need to be on the same page so nobody gets hurt. Confirmation of these facts are easily proven by the Dept. of Ag who comes out monthly, & the Vet is out at least once a month. There are many ways to run a barn, BUT that does not mean our way is right or wrong, it means that is how we do it. We are open to the public, & if we were doing anything wrong we wouldn't do that. In 2023, there were two S. FL Vet schools that brought students out for hands on experiences. Also, in 2023 we worked with one new company, & a well known college giving blood samples, drawn by our Vet, for their research on EIA. We don't have volunteers present when doing this. Yes, there is a board. All your accusations can be proven wrong as it is public information. Go look it up, then take down your nonsense.
I have a grand respect for all the work that goes into running this nonprofit organization. Being a horse woman myself, I can promise you that it is truly ALOT of hard work when you are speaking about caring for horses’ and misc farm animals. This team truly makes it a “labor of Love”. As important as caring for the animals is …it is just one facet that goes into keeping this project afloat year after year. It takes money to purchase the feed and hay, the grooming supplies. Money to pay for the Vet and the farrier’s service and so much more. That means constantly looking for sponsors to supply those necessary items. But each and every year they “make it happen”. And I mean this is been for years that I have followed this wonderful group of people.
I just can’t say enough about Debbie Bye, the founder of “FRIENDS”. Thru thick and thin, she never gives up. And there is just not enough praise to give to the fabulous big hearted Volunteers. They sincerely love what they do. It’s all about making sure the horses get whatever they need to live a full and comfortable life.
Kudos to each and every one of you !
F.R.I.E.N.D.S is a non profit that takes in abused, neglected and sick horses and other animals. The volunteers give so much time loving and giving comfort to each animal. I also appreciate the extra programs offered to our community.

THIS is a Great Place to scratch your horsey itch. They have horses to sponsor for beginners to advance equestrians. Just want to volunteer. You can do that too. NO EXPERIENCE necessary they will teach you everything. ITS A awesome place to learn a lot about horses. I HIGHLY recommend FRIENDS.

LOVE Friends. THEY take great care of the horses. ITS A great place to get into horses if just starting out. Sponsoring or volunteering, you will learn a lot. Also, a great place to basicly have a horse without the long term commitment and cost associated with it. They have very reasonable sponsorship programs. They have horses at all levels of horsemanship.
Give them a try.
I go to the ranch every Sunday. I love being around the horses, goats, pigs and lambs. When I take a day off from work that is where you will find me...with my friends. I look forward to being with them. They are my calm after a crazy week at work. When they go out to pasture they are beautiful to watch.

Yes it is work but it is rewarding work. All of the horses, donkeys pigs, goats and sheep are my friends. You want to be around some beautiful animals come and help us. My family and I have had a wonderfully enriching experience, volunteering at F.R.I.E.N.D.S. as well as becoming involved in their community outreach programs through the years. Getting outdoors and interacting with the horses and other volunteers is a meaningful experience at the same time you are doing a good deed for the horses by helping to maintain their care. With all the stress in life you would be surprised how participating at FRIENDS Horse Rescue can alleviate that stress and leave you with a sense of accomplishment and with the knowledge that you have done some good for others. I highly recommend participating as a volunteer to not only help get the work done but also for teaching your children a sense of responsibility and civic pride for helping others in their community. "A little hard work never hurt anybody!" They also have a Sponsor-A-Horse Program in which you can ride, love and groom your sponsored horse which is also an excellent experience for young and old alike! :-)
F.R.I.E.N.D.S is an amazing rescue that has had a huge impact on my life. My first horse George was a rescue horse from F.R.I.E.N.D.S that was over 35 years ago. It’s a group of extremely caring people who put the horses first. If it wasn’t for FRIENDS many of these horses would have been euthanized because they tested positive for EIA. The horses thrive under the care given to them at the ranch many remain non symptomatic.
It provides many affordable horse ownership through their sponsorship program.
Visiting this amazing rescue will show you how truly amazing it is. The horses are loved beyond measure and well cared for. I personally feel it’s the most amazing horse rescue world wide.
I have been there as both a volunteer and sponsor for 9 1/2 years. It is a wonderful
sanctuary/rescue for horses, 2 sheep, 4 goats, 6 pigs and 2 donkeys. They are so well cared for and loved.
All the animals are happy to live out the rest of their lives at FRIENDS.
We have girl scouts, Boy scouts, school groups, church groups , high school students come out to volunteer. They help us to clean up the horses stalls, pastures, water etc. They help groom and give love and attention to the horses. It is hard work at times but so rewarding.
We know the animals are grateful for the help.
The horses get the necessary vet care as needed and annual check ups.
Many of the horses and the rest of the animals would not still be around if FRIENDS did
not welcome them to the ranch.
FRIENDS is a sanctuary not only for the animals but for us humans as well. It is a calming,
relaxing almost therapeutic place to me. Make some new friends. Bring your friends
and come and meet the horses.

This is an amazing rescuer Sanctuary. I volunteer here. Yes when you offer to volunteer, to help the ones in need, you open your heart and understanding to how achieve the goals of the volunteer duties. We appreciate all team and volunteers to help us. Many people think maybe care for a horse is just grooming...yes is part of it. But as well to have clean waters, stalls etc . Is an amazing feeling when you go home after ranch time, knowing that thanks to your time and help the Sanctuary duties where completed in success.
When the duties are done, we can have grooming time that is super Amazing.
As well there are the Pigs , Goats, Donkeys, Sheep. Your time at the ranch will help you to learn and to understand all responsibilities that are required to care protect, and love all animals.
This is a great group that really cares about their animals. They are willing to provide whatever care is needed for the animals which is so refreshing to see. This is a top notch non-profit.
Through the years this Non-Profit Rescue will do what it takes to keep the many horses and farm animals safe and well cared for. Hurricanes, floods, sweltering Florida heat....none of that stops the good work of the dedicated people that run and maintain this rescue/ sanctuary. The many volunteers also deserve credit because without them the daily chores and work needed could not go on. My daughter and I have interacted with F.R.I.E.N.D.S. on and off for years. We always got so much more back than we were able to give. I would highly recommend this rescue to anyone willing to give their time and or donations to a good cause.

As with all places and situations you can't please all the people all the time. It saddens me to see the public negative comments made purely out of spite and without regard for the damage it does to this organization which has been in existence since 1987. If you have a problem with management, go to them and make your complaint known rather than jeopardize the animals you say you are concerned for. I fear the negative impact of these unfounded statements will affect the horses' well being. It is obvious from the vast majority of comments that many people enjoy the ranch and hopefully this "blip on the map" will disappear and allow those at FRIENDS who do care about the horses, to do what they do best...provide equine care and provide valuable community interaction for over 26 years.

Thank You so much for your input. We truly appreciate your support!
This organization has been in existence for over 30 years. The volunteers are the best in the world and are dedicated to the care and well being of the horses and at the same time, they participate in ranch hosted activities for the general public, school children, and small children. I cannot say enough good things about FRIENDS. Without this rescue many horses would have to be put to sleep. FRIENDS takes in horses from local police departments, race tracks, as well as neglected and abandoned horses.
There is no other facility like this in the State! I have watched and been involved with F.R.I.E.N.D.S for over 30 years. The care & take care of the animals that would be euthanized so they can live a great quality and happy life. They consider the horse before humans and that is #1 in my book! The only thing that could improve is for someone to donate more land for them to expand!!!
This non-profit provides food healthcare and wonderful home for animals that are rescued. They nurse them back to health and keep them happy for the remainder of their lives. They love these animals and care for them in a special and precious way.
This place is made up of good people and beautiful animals that needed help. It is an amazing place.
This nonprofit fills a void in the community while enriching people' lives in addition to saving horses in need. Highly recommend their programs provided which benefit all ages.
FRIENDS is a wonderful organization. They provide such a loving and safe home to so many animals who are truly in need. I love volunteering at FRIENDS.

I am a horse and animal lover since I can remember after birth. Finding FRIENDS sanctuary helped me save my life. I have spent many hours there taking care of daily responsibilities required to keep this non-profit going. It has been a sanctuary not only for the animals, but for me as well. Today is my birthday. I wish I had more funds to donate because this place is magical. They make a safe, happy , loving place for discarded large animals to live out their lives in peace. They are wonderful. Thank you for all of the good times and love. Forever grateful to you all. Sincerely,

I had a horse at FRIENDS for 9 years - and I loved him so until he passed at 32 years of age. Its a wonderful organization and Debbie and Bobbie have gone above and beyond for these horses - all all other creatures that have found a home at FRIENDS. Its a great organization for kids to learn to care for a horse - and without this organization these horses would be euthanized. They live long healthy lives at FRIENDS - and the community needs to know that! Get involved and sponsor a horse today! You wont regret it.

I had a horse at friends ranch for 8 years. I loved my Toby until he passed at 32 years old. It’s a great organization and has stayed in the family since the 70’s. Debbie Beye Barwick and her husband Bobby are amazing individuals who would give up their lives for these horses. True compassion for these wonderful horses and other animals at friends ranch. They deserve to be recognized and awarded for their everlasting love And dedication to all the horses they have saved over the years.

This organization has been around since the mid 1960's. Throughout the years they have saved the lives of countless horses that otherwise would have been needlessly destroyed. They have also taken in and saved the lives of abused horses and given them a new lease on life. They have made the experience of being a horse lover affordable and given horse lovers the opportunity to be involved and a part of a horses life. There are many cat and dog rescues; however, this is the only horse rescue that I am aware of that has survived the test of time. Friends is truly the "BFF" (Best Friend Forever) of all the horses that have been fortunate enough to reach this ranch. Friends deserves all the support, whether monetarily or through volunteering to help at the ranch, that they can get.

Thank you so much for your support and wonderful review.
As a member of the SMPS (Society of Marketing Professionals) we chose a charity or non-profit each year to support. We chose FRIENDS and actually had a volunteer day at their location. It was very fulfilling - the people that run FRIENDS are truly passionate about the animals and you can tell put their whole hearts in that place. The most impressive was when they lead the horses out to pasture in the afternoon and those majestic animals run past you - something I will remember for years. THANK YOU FRIENDS for all you DO!!!

FRIENDS Ranch is one of the few non profit horse rescues that offer sanctuary to neglected, abused, and unwanted equines. The horses that are given a second chance at life and rescued by this group are truly given just that at FRIENDS. With the help and love of volunteers and sponsors, there’s nothing but happy and healthy horses living their best life here. The sponsorship programs are affordable and rewarding. The ranch is family friendly, filled with horses, goats and donkeys! If you have spare time to help a great cause, this is the place to go!

This rescue allows people from all walks of life to be introduced to the world of horses on every level. They have a children's program called Magical Minis which teaches the children about horses at a very young age so they can form a life long love for these beautiful creatures. The program introduces the children to miniature horses so that they are very relatable to a child. They also have a sponsor-a-horse program for children and adults and every level of riding ability from no riding to more experienced riders which allows the sponsor to have the horse to care for as their own for as long as they enjoy sponsoring. Many of these horses would have been euthanized with no other place to go for a long list of various reasons but F.R.I.E.N.D.S. has stepped up to take these horses in. The positive programs provide an enjoyable experience for many of the local communities and the people who live in them. Volunteer hours can be met and just getting out amongst the horses has a transformative effect on the people who visit. You can find more info on their website: www.eiahorses.org

F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is not only a sanctuary for horses that would otherwise be killed, but it is an organization that gives many young people the opportunity to grow up in a healthy environment that they wouldn’t have if it weren’t for the loving and compassionate people that give their hearts and hard work to keep it running. I will continue to donate to this incredible non-profit organization because they are doing incredible things for young people and giving a forever home to the horses.

FRIENDS is a great ranch! They rescue and care for horses that have EIA or are neglected or abused. They also saved other animals, such as donkeys, miniature horses, sheep, goats , pigs, cats! I have learned so much here and it is my sanctuary! It’s great for everyone who cares about animals!

Whether it be as a child or an adult, we’ve all dreamed of loving and caring for a horse! At FRIENDS, not only are you able to fulfill that dream but you’re given an opportunity to help horses, donkeys, pigs, and goats that are in need. The ranch is full of friendly people and fun times! Education is key when it comes to caring for a horse which is why the ranch offers several informative and enjoyable classes to teach equine basics. FRIENDS even hosts a Magical Mini program to get the little ones involved in horses and the responsibilities that come with them. FRIENDS is everything and more a rescue/nonprofit should be and I’m beyond proud to be a part of such a wonderful organization.
I volunteer Tuesday and Thursday and by far it's been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Everyone that comes has such a love for these horses and it shows by how caring and dedicated they are. All of the volunteers range in age from 13 to 80 we all find something to do to enrich the lives of all the horses, ponies, goats, etc. I ask that you come to F.R.I.E.N.D.S. And see all the hard work that goes into this rescue and if you find it in your heart to help whether it be your time or donations.
Thank you, Trudie

When my son needed service hours for high school I volunteered along with him cleaning stalls, filling water buckets bathing and brushing. We enjoyed our time together caring for the horses and ponies. All of the animals there are so well cared for and loved. Debbie and her husband truly care about the horses and their well-being. Friends horse rescue is the real deal! Awesome place for kids to learn to care for farm animals and get their service hours and make friends!

My daughter has spent many years here learning not only about horses but more importantly how to join groups for the greater good, work together as a team to accomplish goals, help care for animals, learn empathy for others and on and on... The lessons learned here are not just about the animal rescue but about helping to build character in oneself and in others.
I highly recommend this organization for all age groups and walks of life. It is a wonderful experience.
Fantastic organization that provides a safe haven for EIA positive horses that would otherwise be unnecessarily euthanized. I’ve greatly enjoyed my trips to FRIENDS and always look forward to my next visit!!!
F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Horse Rescue is an excellent charity that provided valuable research into the health and well being of horses. Our group is looking forward to February 24 for our volunteer day where we get to take a tour of the facility and do a little dirty work! Keep up the great work guys!
Amazing nonprofit! I've had nothing but great experiences with this program. Let's save those horses!!
Such a wonderful non profit for horses! Definitely, a compassionate and giving organization. They consistently do great work for the horses and the community!
The work at F.R.I.E.N.D.S., Inc. is very important to not only saving our equine companions but educating the public about health safety, precautions and prevention of horse related issues.
The work FRIENDS does not only helps the horses, but radiates throughout the community. But it is all about the horses and saving their lives. Great job all of you!!
I fell in love with Falcon, a horse at FRIENDS and ever since then, this ranch has held a special place in my heart!
No one does what this place does! The true love and dedication is second to none! I have known this establishment for over 3 decades. God bless F.R.I.E.N.D.S

I have been involved with F.R.I.E.N.D.S. for over 20 years. The dedication, pure selfless love and extremely hard work is beyond words! If only more people could do what this incredible organization does! The horses that are at this facility would be dead without F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I thank them and commend all of the volunteers. I thank the donors! The sponsor program that they have is such a great way for every horse to have the love and attention they need and also get the proper exercise.
I have been volunteering at FRIENDS for years now and I can't imagine a better place for these horses. They are all so loved here.
I volunteer here because they have a lot of work to do every day and they need help. I am 13 years old but I like it. It is hot and the work is hard but they really need the help. The horses are cool and I have my favorites. You should try it. You might like it, I do.
Bobby and Debbie have a two prong approach to this wonderful rescue. They save horses, who would otherwise be put down and they provide education to people who wish to learn about horses.. There is plenty of volunteer work to be had and lots of horses who love the attention.
They are very passionate about their horses and take great care of them! My six year old daughter and I love going there and helping the animals. They have many activities and ways to get involved and are always very appreciative of the work you do for them. We sponsor a goat and do volunteering and it's very rewarding!

I recently started volunteering at F.R.I.E.N.D.S and I can honestly say that it has been one of the best experiences I've had! Everyone is so nice and so commited. I love the fact that they are so involved in so many events, doing everything possible to get their name out there. They offer a great opportunity to their volunteers to learn and enjoy nature by helping such a great cause! Saving the life of so many horses in need. It is definitely an experience that well help you grow in many ways.
The programs for our community are fantastic! Especially the new Magical Mini Program. Every child that attended left with a HUGE SMILE! The class is for kids 6-10 years old, it is 2 1/2 hours of hands on learning. They learn to groom, put a halter & lead rope on, lead a horse and how to walk them through a obstacle course. They also have a NEW Membership program with different perks. In April, they have a Celebration for the ASPCA HELP A HORSE DAY!
I do not have enough words to describe what an amazing experience it has been being a part of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Being the horse lover that I am, it is great to know that there is a place and people that share the same passion. Everything is for the well being of the horses at the ranch. There are different events and programs for the public to be involved. I am happy to say I get to be a part of the Magical Mini Program, teaching the little ones how amazing these beautiful animals are. I encourage anyone that wants to, to come out and become a volunteer or sponsor and see how the ranch can change their life just like it has mine.
I started volunteering at Friends for hours for school. I have long since fufilled those hours. I continue to go to the ranch whenever I can and I look forward to my time at Friends. What they do for the horses is amazing! The horses and other animals are all so happy and healthy. They do not put an animal down unless it is absolutly nessicary. They deserve so many more sponsors and donations.
This place rocks! Whether your new to the equestrian world or a long time horse lover, FRIENDS has so many things to offer. Not only can you volunteer your time and have one on one interaction with the horses, you can "sponsor" a horse for a monthly fee. Because FRIENDS is a non-profit, it relies on donations and sponsorships to care for and feed each and every horse. You can schedule a tour of the ranch (see their website http://www.eiahorses.com/ for more info) to have some fun! Bring the family along, the donkeys, pigs and goats will entertain them for hours! This non-profit really puts the horses needs first and that's why I donate both my time and money to FRIENDS!

FRIENDS provides excellent care for horses in need, whether they can no longer be cared for by their owners, or if they are Coggins positive. This is a non=profit organization run entirely by volunteers.
I've known the organization and am related to the founders family since its inception. Friends has rescued both horses and people in need, both physically and mentally for a number of years. It benefits the animals as well as the people who care for them. It gives the people a pleasant atmosphere to interact with not only the horses but also others of like concerns for them. A worthwhile organization to benefit all! Please support! Thanks, Harry

I have been a loyal supporter of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. even before it's non-profit status. This is an amazing organization that not only rescues abandoned, abused, orphaned, and older horses that would be put down, but ultimately provides plenty of love and affection for these magnificent animals! It is a forever place for them to live the rest of their lives in happiness with the caring efforts of the many volunteers that have come through the gates throughout the years.
This organization also provides the opportunity for families to participate in good family recreation by allowing them to sponsor one of the horses or simply in participating in the feeding, cleaning, and care for the horses, as well as pot belly pigs, goats, donkeys, and miniature horses.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S. provides local community events and services, as well as informative seminars. The emotional rewards in caring and working with the horses are paid in many WHINNIES!!!!!

This outstanding organization not only provides a haven for abused, orhpanded, and abandoned horses, but also for horses that can no longer be taken care of by their owners due to the economy, foreclosures, etc. This organization also works with the community and other organizations providing experiences of working with the horses. School students earning community service hours learn about responsibilites and caring for the animals. Other individuals serving community service hours continue to come back to help as volunteers on a regular basis. This organization exists only through donations, grants, and various fundraisers. Please vote for us!!!!!! F.R.I.E.N.D.S. thanks you.
This non profit is the real deal. There is no electric, no running water, no telephone. There are no paid employees only volunteers and sponsors/members. Their commitment is beyond belief and the horses and other animals are truly the only priority. The staff makes themselves available to the community for information, a place to serve community service hours and a place to spend time with animals. I wish I lived closer because I would go every day if I could. All of the horses are beautiful and well taken care of by a crew of very caring people. I love this place and I can bet you will too!
I have been volunteering with FRIENDS for 9 years. It is a great place, that takes excellent care of the horses. I have also been a sponsor of several horses in the past when my daughter was learning to ride. It is a wonderful place for teens to obtain service hours, as well as for Scouts to do their high level service projects. I highly recommend this nonprofit.

FRIENDS is a great place for kids to learn to love horses and other farm animals, and to develop skills and a sense of responsibility that will help them in all facets of life as they mature. Volunteering at FRIENDS is also great exercise and helps burn off all that excess energy that kids have.
FRIENDS is an amazing organization. Not only is it a phenomenal rescue providing the horses with the best way to live out the remainder of their lives in peace as a happy herd, it also is an amazing place for volunteers of all kinds to come and get away from life for a while and spend time with these amazing horses. Every animal at FRIENDS has a story, and by spending time and getting to know them can really make a difference in a persons life. I have been involved with FRIENDS for over four years and have seen people from no experience with horses all the way to the most experienced be touched by these beautiful rescue animals. Volunteers of all kinds are welcome and there is no job too big or too small. The horses and other animals truly appreciate the work that people do out there. This can easily be seen from how the spirits of these animals change from the first days they arrive to after when they get the love and attention they deserve. The process is a truly beautiful thing to be apart of. I urge everyone to experience making a difference in these animals lives, it is simply good for your soul. There is a lot of beautiful history at the ranch. Everyone involved is there for the animals and there is something for everyone. Come visit FRIENDS!
It's all about the horses at FRIENDS.... many horses are in need of rescue and sanctuary and FRIENDS provides this need. Sponsor-a-horse program is ongoing way for the public to have first hand experience and contact with these beautiful animals that have inspired and touched the human psyche for centuries.
I sponsored a horse at FRIENDS when I lived in Florida, and it was a great experience. It allowed me to learn about horses and horse ownership, something I had been trying for years, but found very hard to achieve from taking lessons and going on trail rides. FRIENDS' sponsor program on the other hand allows one to get hands-on experience with taking care of a horse. I learned a lot and am very grateful for the experience. I have since moved away from Florida and now have my own horse, I don't think this would have been possible without my time at FRIENDS.

Great place to learn about horses and gain experience with horses and other farm animals! Highly recommended!
My daughter sponsors 2 wonderful horses here. This is a great place to spend time with horses. When we originally started going to FRIENDS it was really because of my daughter's interest in horses. However, I have learned so much and have been converted to a "horse person." This is a wonderful place for both adults and children to interact with horses and learn about them.
My kids and I always enjoy our visits to the ranch. We sponsor horses at FRIENDS. Every time I am there I am impressed by the hard work and dedication of the barn staff. It is obvious they love the animals there and take great care of them.

We sponsor two horses at the FRIENDS ranch. Like another reviewer mentioned we have never been horse people. We just kind of loved horses and admired them from a far. Now, my kids ride horses and care for them like it comes naturally. To say that we absolutely love coming to the ranch is an understatement, and we drive for 45 min from Miami in one direction. Yet, we come three times a week. Everyone at the FRIENDS ranch is amazing and so helpful, always offering help and expert assistance to us. Imagine getting a horse without knowing a single thing and in a couple of days becoming able to care for your horse by yourself. This is only possible because people at FRIENDS are incredible and fully dedicated to what they do on daily basis. And, let me say this to anyone who isn't familiar, they do extremely hard work helping neglected and sick animals day in and day out. Words fail me in trying to describe their generosity, kindness, hard work, expertise and dedication.
LOVE this place!! I had been searching for a volunteer opportunity that matched my passion for rescue and animals. The FRIENDS ranch is amazing and run by the most amazing and respectable people who are all about the horses.
My experiences so far at the ranch have been amazing and I am thrilled to have found them. Each time I leave, I look forward to the next visit.
Honestly, one of the most upstanding rescues I have encountered in many years. Check them out! You won't be disappointed!
I went to this rescue with my daughter and encountered a gentleman that was very rude to me and my daughter. I was raised around horses and had an individual there ask me a question about a problem that a horse that she was sponsoring was having. When I tried to help her with her problem, me and my daughter was asked to leave the property. The people that was there and witnessed the aggression that this gentleman showed seemed to be shocked as I was. All I did was try to help this woman with her problem as I have extensive experience with horse ailments and you would think that they would welcome any help that they could get from someone if they are really about the animals as I am. Seems to me that it is more about the money at this so called rescue.

I have to say, I am very surprised by your review. I was wondering why you waited a year to write a review, and then you put one on here, instead of contacting us directly when it happened so we could address the issue back then? I would like you to know that we can happily say that we have replaced staff since last year and I am very sorry you had that experience. It is very rare we get such complaints and comments. Usually, comments like this come from children/teens playing pranks or people trying to damage an organization. I noticed you wrote that you are a professional and you have expertise in this field. Are you a professional volunteer, volunteer supervisor or do you operate an equine facility? I'm not sure what the difference between a staff member and a senior staff member would be especially since we have no paid employees. Nor do I see how in the world you get the organization is "about money" from the issue you are complaining about. Since you mentioned that you have some horse experience you probably know that every barn does things differently. I would like you to understand that we have a very experienced staff and had there been a health issue it would have been attended to immediately or the vet would have been called. That being said, I feel pretty comfortable saying there had to be more to the story than what you are saying. I am also sure you can understand that if a volunteer comes in for the first time and they started telling people what to do, or what they thought, we might get a bit concerned. We do not know you nor do we know your experience. Perhaps, if you are ever in that situation again you should go directly to the person in charge and let them know your concerns. F.R.I.E.N.D.S currently has 52 Equine, 11 pigs, 4 goats and 2 cats. It is safe to say, WE ARE ABOUT THE ANIMALS and we have been since 1987. I would happily talk to you about your visit if you would like to call me. (954)492-0168
I started with F.R.I.E.N.D.S from the start as a teen. I am now 45 yrs old. Some of my best memories are with my first horse Gorgeous George at the ranch. This is a organization like no other. It is saving horses who would otherwise not have had a chance. I have known Debbie Beye-Barwick over thirty years. Her main mission has always been and will always be the horses.
I now live on a farm in Central Florida and spread F.R.I.E.N.D.S mission to every vet and horse person I come in contact with. I want the horse community to know a EIA positive horse has this wonderful option. Many do not have the land mass to quarantine their horse and think euthanasia is the only option. The reputation of this outstanding organization is nationwide and respected by many horse people. The members and volunteers are the backbone of this organization.
Many of the horses at the ranch live well into their thirties and pass of old age. It also gives people a affordable opportunity of sponsoring and loving a horse. You can be assured with this organization all donations go straight to the horses.
Can you tell I love F.R.I.E.N.D.S.?

FRIENDS is an incredible non profit. My first horse was a EIA positive horse that I had through Friends, I had him until he passed away and was involved for many years. EIA horses would have few options without FRIENDS and many would be put down.
I live in central Florida now and still own horses I will never forget my roots. FRIENDS is a horse lovers dream and an opportunity to have their own horse.
It has been my experience FRIENDS has been a great refuge for some wonderful horses that did not have a place to call home for many reasons and people that have not had an equine experience have been able to join in on the care and maintenance of these fine creatures . Please read and join in on this amazing organization !!!!!
This is a place like none other. The research done here in the equine field and the rescue efforts done here are providing a safe haven for horses and animals that would have to be euthanized if not for the owners and volunteers that put in their valuable time all for the love of these animals.
Our family recently volunteered for National "Help a Horse" day. I couldn't have been more impressed with the staff. They were patient, knowledgeable and kind. We were given an orientation, encouraged to ask questions at any time, and made to feel welcome. I will definitely return to help out when my schedule allows, and have already spread the word at work! Thanks for all you do - it was a great experience.
The work this group does is amazing. The horses are all well cared for & loved. FRIENDS gives people a chance to help care for the horses & other animals as if they r their own pets.

I volunteered at ranch a few times a year. My last visit was very disappointing. The management was rude. Since April the ranch looks run down and horses not groomed. I heard the ranch being investigated for mismanagement of money/donations and animal neglect.

horserescuer 12/03/2013
These are some pretty damaging allegations you are making. I would suggest you find out the truth before writing such a damaging accusation as it is completely unfounded. We have a couple of disgruntled past members that have been terminated and they are making such accusations and now they are finding themselves in a libel litigation because of what they have put in writing. This is nothing more than a "Harassment Campaign" in which they are being investigated. This is nothing more than a pissing match that in the end will do nothing more that hurt the horses. F.R.I.E.N.D.S. has NEVER been investigated for animal abuse or neglect. That is simply a ridiculous lie. Creatures423, who are you? I would like to discuss these allegations with you further. I would also like to mention that management has not changed. The ranch rules are the same and management is there to enforce the rules for the safety of the horses, the members and the organization. Since you are mentioning changes since April, the only change we have had is a couple of the sponsors were terminated for varies reasons but that is the only change.
My daughter and I have been involved with F.R.I.E.N.D.S. since 2007 and have the utmost respect for the organization. With the current state of the economy, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. provides relief to those who can no longer afford to properly care for their horse(s) and an opportunity for those with a love for horses to experience horse ownership and care at a significantly reduced cost. This organization provides a safe environment for the horses to live, excellent vet care, and sponsors who truly love their horse(s). In addition, this organization provides an opportunity for students to earn their community service hours, animal lovers to spend quality time with all of the animals at the ranch. Currently there are horses, pigs, goats, donkeys and cats. We highly recommend F.R.I.E.N.D.S.! Come on out to F.R.I.E.N.D.S. where you are sure to make some new FRIENDS!!

This organization provides an environment to learn and bond with the horses in addition to experience working as team. Many of the activities at the ranch require more than one individual to complete the chores which in turn fosters communication and new friendships. My daughter's first horse is at F.R.I.E.N.D.S. , she continues to care for him and the other horses regularly, since 2007. The skills and knowledge she has gained at the ranch are applicable in many areas of life. Her love, passion and education of horses continues to be encouraged and is flourishing. I highly recommend this organization for anyone with a love of horses or volunteering. It is a great place to be!
F.R.I.E.N.D.S is a fantastic organization. They take wonderful care of the horses they save. The individuals who sponsor and volunteer are great. All of the horses needs are met at F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I am extremely thankful to this organization that they are here to help the horses.
I have been a sponsor at this place for almost a year. I sponsor three horses. We visit the ranch at least once a week and spend a whole day there. We have always been amazed at how much hard work is put into care for the horses. This place is really something special. People are genuine and they invest all of their time and effort to give these horses a second shot at life. There are almost 60 horses at this ranch. Caring for them is expensive and requires long hours day in and day out. Each and every horse needs to be washed, groomed and fed. They need to be given individual attention; stalls need to be cleaned twice a day etc. Anyone who says that horses are not being taken care of at this ranch is not being truthful.
I have been with this ranch for about 10 years. When I had to leave for college I was heartbroken at the idea of only seeing my boys a few times a year, because they bring me such happiness and a sense of purpose I have only felt here. I've seen so many new horses come in to the ranch as neglected and abused rescue animals that were in such dire need of love and attention--both of which they have found at F.R.I.E.N.D.S. As mentioned, in my long years of experience with this ranch I have personally aided in many different volunteer capacities and have found them all rewarding and highly enjoyable! Come start your own adventure with these loving animals and volunteer now!! :)
I just celebrated my one year anniversary with F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I searched for a place I could afford to have a horse of my own. I met my perfect match and have benefited in ways I never imagined possible. I have a hip injury and my doctor recommended riding. When I started last year, I limped constantly. But, after about 6 months, I was able to get on and off my horse without the pain I had been dealing with for the last 7 years. So, physically, I have benefited. But, the added benefit of the serenity I feel when I drive up to the ranch is not something I had expected. The horses, donkeys, goats and pigs at the ranch are a part of my soul now. Although I sponsor one hrse, I have the entire herd to call my own. I love them all. Today, I got down on my knees and caressed the head of the sweetest Miniature horse. Soft whispers of love to these once forgotten animals is what keeps me going and continuing to heal myself. In return, I get the thrill of my horse nickering when he sees me coming toward his stall. I know ai make a difference by sponsoring an volunteering. I also have been able to pass on my passion of horses to others. I only wish I could do more. I urge anyone reading these reviews to please consider coming out to volunteer. And any donations are put to good use. If you have an animal at your home, think of how you cringe when you have to pay a vet bill. Now, imagine 55 + animals depending on you. They not only need to eat, but be bathed, inspected for anything that needs care, groomed, turned out, and yes, whispered sweet sounds to them, th o let them know they are in their forever home. Thank you F.R.I.E.N.D.S. for bettering my life and giving me a way to meake a difference to others, both people and critters big and small.

Once I reach the ranch driveway, all of the stress from my hectic day vanishes, and I just become part of the ranch. i love every one of the animals out there. And the group of people that this ranch draws are welcoming and so willing to teach all newcomers the ins and outs of life at the ranch. I have introduced many friends and family to F.R.I.E.N.D.S. , and each has felt the love of the horses. They know we are there to help them.
Great Place to be with Family and Friends, Good Place to learn and help horses, Nice people and staff very kind.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S Is Great place to share with family and friends, there is a lot of love and work we can give to this place for the horses.
They care about those horses and other animal to give a better placer to live and share love with them.
People over there are friendly and kind, if you enjoy about taking care of animal this is the place to go.
This ranch, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. horse ranch rescue, is run with out care for the horses or the safety of the staff and volunteers running it. I don't know who is in charge, but these horses are over crowded and neglected. I checked the website and it shows this ranch gets huge annual donations, it is well funded. Judging from the horrible ranch conditions that money cant possibly be spent on those horses. I ran a beautiful ranch with half the amount of horses with 20% of the funds this ranch makes. I asked for the financial document and was directed to a bogus website with tax returns. I am very suspicious about how this ranch is funded and where the money actually goes. Has anyone ever gotten a look at the financials of this ranch?

This person is disgruntled previous member that had their membership terminated. This is nothing more than a poison pen letter in an attempt to hurt the organization. Please, feel free to contact us for copies of financials or any other information you would like. It is sad that she continues to attack an organization that does such good work for a personal vendetta.
When I visited F.R.I.E.N.D.S I was truly amazed by all they do!!! They are giving horses a chance that no one else would dare to. They are wonderful people and I am proud to call them friends!

We visited this rescue 2 years ago while we were on vacation. They were wonderful. Welcomed us with open arms and we dug right in and helped! IT was raining that day and we helped with clean up and just had a great time. This rescue goes above and beyond for these horses that no one else wants!!! We have become great friends with the owner of the rescue and cannot wait to go back this summer to see them again!!! She has a heart of gold!!!
I've been a sponsor of Native, a horse rescued and brought to FRiENDS just after I started going down there trying to find a good match for myself and the horse. . Everyone there went over and above to make sure that Natives transition from his old home to FRiENDS went seemlessly. The love and passion for horses from everyone involved at FRIENDS is like no dedication I've ever personally seen in animal rescue. They eat, drink and breathe horses making sure each and everyone of them has the best care to live their lives in a loving and safe environment as their forever home. One of the plethora of things I love, is that at the ranch, a horse can be a horse and be turned out to pasture to run and play with one another. I'm so glad I found FRIENDS and the wonderful people that are able to run this rescue so beautifully. I have been a sponsor for 5 years now and will continue to be.
FRIENDS is a lot of things to a lot of different people. There are so many ways to participate in the program and you get to choose what you want to do. While being around and interacting with horses is good for your heart and soul, they are also fun to children of all ages. Your experience can be life changing out there. You can learn things you never thought you would know and gain relationships that you never imagined would matter so much. Volunteering out there is the best way to start. It gives you the opportunity to see what takes place, how things are done, all while helping to care for these beautiful animals. You will know within 2 or 3 visits if this is the place for you. If you don't mind dirt and occasionally mud, you will probably love it. It is a peaceful, family oriented place that put the animals first while teaching those who want to learn everything about horses.

FRIENDS is an AWSOME organization. We currently house 55 horses, 2 miniature donkeys, 9 pot bellied pigs, 1 farm pig, 3 goats and 1 cat. It takes a lot of people to make it all work. We have no paid employees. We have GREAT Volunteers, GREAT Animals and A LOT OF FUN! We need volunteer support to help feed the horses, clean stalls, water, bathe, groom and medicate when needed. Everyone is welcome and we will gladly teach you about horses and their care if you want to learn. We also have the ever popular "Sponsor A Horse Program" where for a flat rate fee, you can choose to have a horse all to yourself to ride, groom and play with for the month. We also have the 1/2 a horses share plan too if you only want to have half the month with a horse. We are always in need of funding for the vet and feed store. It runs $ 13,000.00 per month just for feed and hay and there's always a vet bill with this many horses. Currently we are in the process of accepting 9 more horses who are in immediate need of assistance. We have taken 4 new horses in this week and we will go get 2 more this week. We need commuinty support for not only financial donations but for volunteer support as well! FRIENDS has been saving Florida's horses for more than 25 years and with your help, we would like to go another 25. We hope to see you out there!
FRIENDS..is where I met the loves of my life. (S.S.M) It is a place where I go with much anticiaption to see my team of three. I've learned so much about horses at FRIENDS through the helpful staff and still continue to do so. i consider FRIENDS to be a palce where they truly care for the animlas and everyone works with one purpose, to give the horses the proper care they were lacking. Truly remarkable experience!
Amazing horse ranch for any out door or animal lover. After arriving at the ranch from unthinkable conditions, these horses are respected and allowed to live a stress free life. They deserve at least that. Families and individuals can sponsor a horse which is just like owing your own horse with out the huge expense. Run by an all volunteer staff, the ranch is always in need of volunteers willing to work hard while enjoying what they do. Visit the wesite: www.eiahorses.org for all information needed for volunteering and sponsoring.

FRIENDS is one of the only true horse rescues I have seen. Horses have been rehabilitaated from abuse and extreame neglect. They take horses that anywhere else would be put down, due to medical conditions, age or prior owner's inability to make money using the horse. All of the horses at this ranch are worthy of a happy "horse" life and did not deserve their prior treatment. If you are reading this please make an effort to donate to help continue to save the horses.
FRIENDS ranch is a relaxing place to spend a few hours helping out some wonderful animals. There are so many different jobs to do that anyone can find something they can do to help out. It is the only place I have found that would let my kids volunteer under the age of 16.
If someone can't donate their time, and money donated is strictly used for the animals.
My children and I just start it volunteering at the farm, we LOVE it!!! I highly recommend anyone to give your time and energy in caring and helping this animals!!!!! Please also donate as much as you can to ensure the healthi lives of this animals!! Much love and peace to all!!!
I consider FRIENDS ranch my second home. My second family. After first starting on February 25, 2012 this place means everything to me; the people and the animals. It is a very friendly environment for all ages. I learned and am still learning everything there is to know about horses. IF I COULD I WOULD LIVE AT THE RANCH
I used to donate to other places, but stopped the moment I knew and saw what they do at FRIENDS, it is absolutely WONDERFUL, I am so proud to be a donor to this great place where the horses REALLY come first. I love it and hope that other people would go over there and see for themselves and help this animals. Here, there isn't a single horse that is turned away and they are all brought back to health and all have a happy home.
My family and I have volunteered at FRIENDS Ranch for a couple of years. We find the experience to be rewarding and working with the horses is wonderful.

FRIENDS Ranch is the greatest place to volunteer at. You are interacting with the horses, goats, pigs and donkeys as well as working with a great group of people. Everyone is helpful and upbeat. It is a ranch that the whole family can enjoy and know they are doing something positive for the animals. I have volunteered with FRIENDS for the past 12 years and love every minute I've spent working there.
I started off at the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. ranch just loooking to get a. horse to ride for my daughter and I. From my very first visit I saw how much love the owner has for these horses. So many of these horses come from a sad places or was on their way to be put down. I have seen many horses come in that are starving because of owner neglect. The transforrmation of these horses from sick to healthy is nothing short of a miracle. It takes a lot of love, nurturing, time and compassion to make these animals healthy again. There are a lot of caring people there from kids, teens to adults that volunteer there for hours but mostly because they truely enjoy and love these animals. For me personaly being around these horses are therapeutic for me. I can go there feeling stressed spend a few hours with my horse and leave feeling like a new person. I believe we get more from them than they do from us....
I love F.R.I.E.N.D.S. it's a great family run organization and is a very family oriented place. I've been volunteering there for over a year and I love it. All of the horses are very soothing to the soul and are great fun.
Best place ever. Surrounded by good people and good horses. Melts your stress away the minute you pull in. Forever one of my favorite places.
Just an all around wonderful place! I can't believe the difference this charity has made not only in lives of deserving horses but also in the lives of the families that volunteer there. FRIENDS rescues abused and would other wise be destroyed horses and turns them into loving, well cared for animals. It has made a great difference in my daughter's life to watch and be a part of this transition. I highly recommend this incredible charity
My family and I have volunteered at F.R.I.E.N.D.S. for about a year now and we sponsor several horses. Our kids, now 19 and 15 have always been animal lovers, but this organization has touched us in a way we would never imagine. While we do give a lot of our time in volunteering, we truly believe, that we get more out of it than we give. To help these amazing creatures, all have differing stories as to how and why they were rescued, to find a safe haven in a nuturing and caring environment is incredibly satisfying. I don't know where these horses would go if it were not for an organization like F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
I occasionally volunteer with a friend who sponsors a horse at F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I love the dedication she has for this organization and the love in her voice when she talks about it every day. There is always excitement with her about being able to spend the day there. However, I have noticed this from EVERY sponsor I have interacted with at F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Although they only sponsor one or two horses each, they dedicate their time to numerous horses at a time, making sure each are loved and cared for. I enjoy how they are constantly taking the horses out in the pasture and not being "stuck" in their stalls. This organization also has a lot of volunteers and are regularly organizing activities for all the sponsors to attend such as barbecues, trail rides, Halloween costume contests, etc.
I've sponsored a horse at this ranch and have seen the dedication and care that are given to the animals. They take in as many rescues as they can. Animals with the EIA disease and others that have been starved and abandoned. If it were not for this organization many animals would have been sent to their death through no fault of their own. The animals are well taken care of and loved by all the volunteers.
Review from Guidestar
This organization is GREAT!! I sponsor one of their horses, and I help with the morning feeding one day a week. All of their horses receive individual care and attention. No expense is spared when it comes to getting the horses the medical treatments they need. They have numerous volunteers that work hard to make it a great place for the animals and people. Much love to F.R.I.E.N.D.S.!!
This organization is GREAT at what they do. I have seen them take starving horses and make them fat and happy. They have many programs for volunteers and community participation. They have a good work ethic and appreciate any and all donations they receive. If you haven't been there, go. You will love it.
I am going on year #2 of being a very happy and fulfilled sponsor at FRIENDS. I have formed a life-long, loving bond with my horse as well as with the other FRIENDS members. I couldn't imagine not being a part of FRIENDS. There are so many horses to love and to care for. You can volunteer or sponsor. Each capacity is fulfilling and necessary to keep FRIENDS active. It's an amazing organization! I Love FRIENDS!
This is a rescue driven by love and dedication. They do so much with the small amount of funds they have at their disposal. FRIENDS has many community programs that gives back so much to the people in and around the rescue. I would like to see much more funding for this long established south Florida rescue that has been in existence since 1987. The economy has put a lot of pressure on the rescue this year and they are having difficulty making ends meet for the over 50 horses in their care so I am hoping more people will take the time to donate to this fine organization so they can continue to do their good work!
This non-profit horse rescue is an amazing place for not only the horses they save and give sanctuary to but also for the community that FRIENDS gives so much back to. They have several interactive community programs that benefit many different segments of the local community including equine therapy, volunteer hours for both high school and other volunteer hours, they also introduce "city" children to "the farm", host activities for youth groups including Girls Scouts and Boy Scout troops, and many more events of interest which can be seen on their web site at www.eiahorses.org The best program in my opinion is the Sponsor-A-Horse Program where for a small donation amount each month that covers the care of the horse, a family or individual can have a wonderful horse of their very own to help save, care for, love and ride! My daughter has taken part in this program for several years and we have had many wonderful days of wholesome family activities out at the ranch including BBQ's, trail rides and fun competitions. I wholeheartedly recommend FRIENDS to anyone looking for a great experience!
I became a sponsor in October 2009 of a beautiful horse, Pork Chop. F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is my first experience with horses. No matter what capacity, sponsor or volunteer, etc., it's one of the most rewarding and personally fulfilling experiences one will ever encounter. I love spending time at the ranch, not only with my horse, but all the others as well. It's a great place to take my kids. They help clean stalls, feed, and care for the horses and other animals. I highly recommend the ranch for everyone.
This place is a wonderful environment for these animals and also for the great people involved with this program. I've been involved with the ranch for about 8 years and I absolutely love everyday of it. These horses and other animals here at the ranch are all so filled with life and happiness, all thanks to the effort put forth by this organization. Love this place!
FRIENDS Ranch provides a fun and educational experience for anyone interested in horses. Working at the ranch also gives volunteers an opportunity to get exercise and be outdoors. I have found that many children that volunteer at the ranch are exposed to animals and the outdoors that they may not have ever been exposed to previously. There are horses, donkeys, pigs, cats and wildlife such as birds, raccoons, etc. I personally find my experiences at the ranch to be very enriching. I'd be lost without this opportunity to help our community and the animals.
The non-profit organization, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, supports a great cause. However, their schedule is not flexible. From the morning to late afternoon it is clean up time, and then you are allowed to ride your horse. (Work then play, which is a great bias especially for children, I must mention) By the time I could make it out certain days to ride my horse he would already be turned out, so I would have to trudge through the field up to my ankles in mud to try and lead my horse back in. (Which took a lot of effort, he was quite stubborn and did not have any intention to leave his friends) It was difficult because he became extremely anxious whenever I took him to the riding paddock. I couldn't even ride him for 10 minutes because he wouldn't calm down, he obviously wanted to be turned out again. With the drastic wet, humid weather here in South Florida during the Spring and Summer, it is difficult to go out there and spend time with your horse. I sponsered a horse for about 4 months and volunteered for almost a year until I just did not have the time to go out and sojourn with him anymore. I would definitely go back to the ranch again to do volunteer work on weekends, but would not even ponder the thought of sponsering a horse from there once more.

When I re-located to Florida, I owned a 28 year old horse who was retired on a family farm in upper-state New Jersey. I chose to let her live out her life on the farm she knew as home in New Jersey, but I had moved to horse country in Davie, and missed my girl terribly. I began volunteering at FRIENDS Ranch as a way to re-connect with horses. I so enjoyed the atmosphere, and the animals, that, after my own horse passed away, I began sponsoring a horse. FRIENDS is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who wants to learn about how to care for a horse, and it is also a great way to discover if horse ownership is your cup of tea.
I got to know F.R.I.E.N.D.S. through a program for my son and have since become a member and sponsor for one of the horses. The care all the horses receive is absolutely outstanding and the staff is always looking out for the well being of the horses. I can only encourage people to get involved , not only as a volunteer but also as a sponsor, for one FRIENDS is in need of sponsors to give the continued support to all the horses that need it and also the reward you get on a personal level being involved with a horse is priceless. Whenever I can I drop by after work and this time helps me to recharge from the daily grind. Helping to clean the stalls , or when possible feed is a great balance to office life and much better than being in a gym! You can see in the horses eyes how much they appreciate your help . I would also like to mention Lynne the Ranch Manager , she goes above and beyond you could expect from anyone one volunteering on a daily basis .
In the few years that I have volunteered at this rescue, I haven't been able to find another rescue that fulfills my happiness as F.R.I.E.N.D.S. does. All the management is nice and on top of things, and all of the horses there are content and happy. There is no place I'd rather volunteer than F.R.I.E.N.D.S Ranch!
The organization has gone a long way to help not only horses diagnosed with EIA in the state of Florida but it provides a sanctuary for all other horses in need in Broward County. The rescue facility has been in existence since 1987 providing a place for horses to live out their natural lives with love, care and dignity. F.R.I.E.N.D.S. as it is also known, has a Sponsor-A-Horse program whereby families and individuals can sponsor a horse and have the horse to call their own at the ranch to care for, love, and ride for as long as they care to sponsor. F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Rescue is deeply involved in the community and has several programs for children interaction, as well as a very active volunteer program.

horserescuer 06/11/2024 Thank you so much for all your help. We love having your students visit. I think it's about time again! We try to give back to our community in a positive manor with our various programs. Some of our volunteers have never been around horses before and they are amazed by their personalities. Having Vet Techs learn how to actually treat horses and other farm animals is important because one day they may become Vets. We love having teaching days! Thanks for the five star review, we feel the same way! We love that you posted some pictures of your various classes and students.
