Causes: Community & Neighborhood Development, Economic Development
Mission: (a) this corporation is organized and shall be operated exclusively for charitable purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3)of the internalrevenue code or corresponding section of any future federal tax code. (b) in furtherance of the foregoing, to lessen the burdens of government by (1) stimulating and sustaining revitalization of the bridge road area of charleston, west virginia ("bridge road") by erecting, improving and maintaining public facilities such as sidewalks, streets, parks, and public parking areas; (2) improving public safety in the bridge road area; (3)promoting bridge road and creating a positive image of the area; (4)improving the appearance of bridge road, including without limitationpreserving the historic or architectural character of the area; and (5)promoting the happiness and well-being of the members of the bridge roadcommunity. (c) as a means of accomplishing the foregoing purposes, to exercise such powers and engage in such activities
Programs: Phase i - completion of area located between 1018-1034bridge road - balance of beautification of greenspace along retaining wall constructed to increase parking and add sidewalks. Expense was return of unused balance of kanawha valley sustainable initiative grant required to be refunded.
phase iii - phase iii includes construction of the bridge road predestrian plaza, which added additional parking, benches, lighting, sidewalks, and beautification. Also included is the bridge/pine/glen roads gateway project with entry signage and beautification.
phase iv - phase iv projects include:1. Bridge road south side connector: linkage of ada accessible sidewalks on the south side of bridge road within the business district (from the intersections of bridge and walnut roads to the intersection of bridge and birch roads). Small sections of sidewalks would be built, linking the small, independently owned businesses located along that section of bridge road. The only connecting sidewalk is located across bridge road. This project would allow pedestrian access where there are currently driveways and sometimes dangerous grassy, dirt and/or rocky pathways adjacent to the road. The project would also include installation of decorative streetlights, benches and trash receptacles. Curbing would be installed where necessary to provide additional safety features. Beautificationwould be included. Currently, the association is working with business owners to provide planters with seasonal color and improvements to the buildings including decorative awnings and signage.
