Mission: The foundation's mission is two-fold. We seek to increase and enhance the quality of services, programs, and community events offered by the bozeman public library, benefiting the residents and communities it serves. The foundation also supports and advocates for private and public support of the library, acting as a catalyst for attracting private funding from individuals, businesses, organizations, and foundations while working to reinforce overall public support for the library.
Results: We believe strong libraries contribute to strong communities by providing a welcoming civic space, free of charge, used by all facets of the population—young and old, rich and poor, conservative and liberal. Public libraries reduce social and economic inequalities. They champion free speech and propel our democratic society. When adequately funded, libraries lay the foundation for literacy and lifelong learning that helps create avenues for safety, health, and economic well-being. We believe communities that invest in social infrastructure (the physical spaces that facilitate interaction) are healthier, safer, more equitable, and less polarized. Libraries serve as important neutral spaces where people can learn, work, and create alongside others outside their usual networks. Philanthropy is the reason Bozeman has an outstanding library building and can offer so many programs, materials, and services. Most importantly, everything at the library is free, eliminating barriers to access.
Target demographics: improve library spaces and for a wide range of programs and services, including early literacy, digital equity, wellness, outreach, art, and civil discourse.
Direct beneficiaries per year: thousands of visitors to the Library
Geographic areas served: Montana's Gallatin Valley
Programs: Bookmobile: the bookmobile is a mobile outreach vehicle that brings library materials and services directly to members of the community five days a week. The focus is on reaching people who might otherwise have a difficult time accessing these services, such as the elderly, disabled and low-income. Children's Festival of the Book: popular children's authors spend a day visiting local elementary and middle schools to talk about their craft. This is followed by a day-long festival at the library consisting of a series of writing and illustrating workshops, book signings, and panel discussions. Music on the Green: outdoor family-friendly concerts featuring local and regional bands of varying genres. One Book One Bozeman: community read partnership to strengthen relationships and provide programming to further educate and inspire. Summer Reading: free summer programs offered to all ages to encourage reading and hands-on learning. Partner with the Food Bank to provide free lunches all summer long. Health and Wellness: free weekly classes for all ages and abilities; adults are encouraged to bring babies/kids. Keeping the community healthy through movement and connection.
