Programs: Boys & girls club of greenwich (bgcg) fulfills its mission to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens by providing affordable programs in five core areas of youth development: academic success; good character and leadership; healthy lifestyles; the arts and media; and sports, fitness and recreation. Bgcg serves young people between the ages of 6 to 18. In caledar year 2016, the club had 1,667 members who paid an annual fee of $50 to participate in a wide range of programs, including our signature after-school program. 54% of bgcg member families live at low-income levels as defined by hud for the fairfield county region. Our members are ethnically diverse: 42% caucasian; 28% hispanic or latino; 10% multi-racial; 9% asian; 6% african-american; and 5% other. Bgcg's comprehensive after-school program boasts more than 80 course offerings in our five core youth development areas. In 2016 an average of 320 children per day attended the after-school program which is held at the club's main location: a four-story building in central greenwich with 52,000 square feet of useable space including a 25-meter six lane swimming pool, a multi-sport arena, a reading library, two learning centers and a computer lab. In addition, bgcg operates aquatics programs including swim lessons, water safety classes, swim team, family swim times and sports leagues throughout the academic year. The club offers an annual musical theater production. Additional fees are not required for participation in the after-school program, but are charged for some of bgcg's community programs. The club runs two summer camps (an outdoor camp at the club's 77 acre wilderness property, camp simmons, and another at the main clubhouse) that operated for 9 weeks in 2016. Camp tuition is affordably priced at $150 per week, and, in 2016, the club provided more than $61,000 in waived or reduced tuition to families in need. Boys & girls club of greenwich provides a safe place for community youth to participate in programs and services that instill a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. We offer club children ongoing supportive relationships with peers and caring, professional adults. Graduating high school seniors who exemplify the good character of boys & girls club participants are eligible to apply for college scholarships. The club awarded $139,000 in college scholarships in 2016. Founded in 1910, boys & girls club of greenwich is part of a nationwide movement of community-based organizations, which collaborate with boys & girls club of america to help youth develop the qualities needed to become leaders. Although affiliated with the national organization, bgcg has its own programs, board of directors and fundraising responsibilities.
