Programs: See schedule ochild care center, licensed by new york state office of children and family services is comprised of:early childhood education program (hereinafter referred to as ece): comprehensive, developmentally appropriate programming for children ages 3, 4, and 5. Outcomes:recognized by new york state department of education as a model early childhood program serving children of all abilities. Ece students are "kindergarten ready" based upon academic skills and behavior. The ece program is led by barbara cutri, club kid and staff member for 33 years, regarded as a top educator who improves the lives of our future generations. The program is staffed with early childhood educators, trained and educated to exceed the standards of the office of children and family services. The program is year-round and offers a flexible schedule to meet parents' needs. Utilizing the creative curriculum, the ece program provides hands on and center based activities that promotes age appropriate learning and meets the common core standards for preschool. Children utilize our gymnasium, playground and field for gross motor development, teamwork and cooperation. We offer red cross swim lessons to our preschoolers twice per week and collaborate with outside organizations to provide music, science and nature, drama, art and many other activities. A robust nutrition curriculum is present that promotes healthy eating exercise and gardening, giving the children a garden to table experience. For over 20 years we have collaborated with the children's school for early development to provide early childhood education to children with defined disabilities. Our teachers work side by side with special educators for the benefit of all our children. After school fun club - is the after school component of the child care center. Outcomes: for eight (8) consecutive years 100% of high school seniors including those "at risk," graduated high school on time and went to university or technical schools. More than 83,000 free meals and snacks are served annually at the club. The club serves breakfast, an after school meal and an evening meal, for teenagers, each day. In addition, supplemental weekend food backpacks are distributed and the club serves as a community hub site for a monthly food pantry truck distribution. Kids who attend club after school programming have higher attendance rates at school and improve their grades. Children who are in grades k through 7 are offered a learning environment and many high yield learning experiences which helps them to develop socially, physically, intellectually and emotionally. Recognizing that all children have individual development needs, and the desire to explore and experiment with problem solving and decision making skills, our goal is to provide guidance and supervision, safe facilities, materials and opportunities. Our staff works closely with many school districts, including the bedford central school district and others, and we offer bilingual homework help literacy/math tutoring, physical and social recreation, fitness, including swim lessons, digital and fine arts, stem education, programs that promote healthy lifestyles, making proper choices, community service and many other activities. We serve meals daily. Fun club staff are youth development professionals trained, pursuant to best practices and services, boys & girls clubs of america and the office of children and family services. Summer adventure club: is our summer program for children entering grades 1 through 9. Outcomes:of the 235 campers participated in summer brain gain, reading book in the club's book nook and participating in the mt kisco library summer reading program. At the end of the eight (8) week camp 100% of these campers avoided summer reading loss. Certified by westchester county department of health, the summer program is a full day extension of the fun club and provides the same quality staff and programming throughout the day. Electives such as theatre, sewing, fencing, cooking, a multitude of sports, dance, writing, and more have been offered to further enhance the program. There are weekly field trips to fun educational destinations.
see schedule omore than 48,000 kids have learned to swim at the club(according to the center for disease control and prevention, for children 5 and under drowning is the #1 cause of accidental death; for children ages 6-14 drowning is the #2 cause of accidental death and for young adults ages 15 to 21 drowning is the #1 cause of accidental death)the aquatics program at the club is led by the director dennis munson who has been with the club for 49 years, is a club kid, and is nationally recognized as one of the most effective all time coaches for both swimming and life. The program consists of a learn-to-swim program, the marlins swim team and swim clinics with neighboring school teams and the community. An example of a community partner is northeastern services, an organization helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The club has partnered with this organization for more than 15 years ensuring that weekly fitness programming, both wet and dry land are accomplished. The club aquatic program meets the american red cross safety and learn-to-swim standards, classes are provided for appropriate skill levels and age groups and follow a strict staff-to-child ratio for each class. The aquatic staff are certified water safety instructors and/or lifeguards. All possess first aid, cpr, and aed certifications. Various water safety training classes are taught at the club. For eighteen (18) consecutive years the marlins have been national bgca champions with more than 210 children on the team. The team practices 6 days per week during the swim season and competes nationally. The coaches of the marlins have been with the club for many years, including dennis munson and david ellinghaus for more than 20 years. There are generations of club kids who received scholarships to college enabling them to attend schools they would otherwise not been able to afford. Through a mentoring program and regular fun club activity programming, many kids who otherwise would not have the chance to learn to swim are afforded this essential life skill. The children who participate in the marlins program must be focused and committed to learning competitive swimming. As a result, many of the team members are excellent students who go on to college and swim at the college level, while excelling academically as well. Many marlin alumni attribute becoming successful citizens to their marlin coaches and club family.
see schedule oafter school fun club teen center: unique in our area is our dedicated space and daily programming for teens ages 13 through 18. Led by club staff, trained by boys & girls clubs of america, our teen program is a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate program. Life skills, job readiness, college quest, civic advocacy, healthy lifestyles and leadership development are among the many programs offered to our teens. Teens are given a voice and a chance to develop programs for the teen center and for youth at the club. Youth of the year, a signature national bgca program, recognizes teens that have shown outstanding academic performance, leadership, citizenship and civic involvement in the club, their home, community and school. Staff work directly with the bedford central school district and other westchester educators and partners to develop goals for graduation and life after high school. Examples of some of the teen programming include: youth for unity, a program designed by the jdl, led by our teens who teach younger members tolerance, acceptance, and anti-bias. Smart girls and passport to manhood (boys 2 men) and smart moves are substance abuse and risky behavior resistance trainings that club members participate in to avoid risky behaviors. The teen summer leadership program is an intensive full day program providing teens with leadership skills building, job experience, money management skills and team work. Keystone club members are the leaders of the teen center and the club. Keystone attends boys & girls clubs of america's regional and national keystone conference, meeting teens from around the nation and the world, to discuss programs and activities for teens and club members to strengthen communities. Our junior staff program provides opportunities for teens to work throughout the club, learning essential job and life skills . The mentoring program provides opportunities for teens to be mentored by club staff and volunteers helping them gain a greater understanding of the world beyond the club and developing a support system between mentor and mentee.
