Causes: Centers to Support the Independence of Specific Populations, Human Services
Mission: Young women united (ywu) leads place based community organizing, culture shift strategies, and policy initiatives by and for self-identified women and people of color in new mexico. Ywu works to build communities where all people have access to the information, education, and resources to make real decisions about our own bodies and lives. Ywu works across the following issue areas: leading juvenile and criminal justice reform with a gender lens perspective, improving access to reproductive health, increasing access women of color have to a full range of birthing options centering midwifery models of care, building narratives of support alongside expectant and parenting young people. Ywu also runs a leadership development program for self-identified young women of color ages 13-19.
Programs: The organization worked with women of color ages 13-35 on leadership development, skills building, and arts and expression to: maintain access to a full range of reproductive health options, increase young people's access to comprehensive sex education, de-criminalize substance using pregnant women, de-stigmatize young parents, and ensure women of color have access to a full range of birthing and parenting options.
