My first experience with the Blue Bear Puppet Lab was as a performer in 2013. I wanted to participate somehow and was given my pick of puppets to climb into. Between then and now (2022), I have participated in several events, performing in their puppets as a wood troll, deep sea diver, angler being eaten by a giant fish, poisonous toad, etc. The lab also provided me the supplies, instruction, and guidance needed to build and perform in my own puppets, including a giant squid, plague doctor, and turtle-goat beast. I love dropping in when I can to see--and help out with--whatever is under construction. The skills acquired and community bonds made through the experience are invaluable.
Blue Bear Puppet Lab is an inclusive, family friendly. learning and performing non-profit that needs a new home in Ellensburg Wa. I've participated with Blue Bear for many years, creating celebration/parade puppets for the Buskers in the Burg each September in Ellensburg WA. Losing our work shop/home is sad because community members would literally walk by our doors, see the huge puppets being made and join in right there on the spot!! I've rarely seen a community bond so quickly and so joyfully as with BlueBearPuppetLab@gmail.com.
Please join us, create with us and help us find a new home!!
I first met the Giant Puppets at the second year of Buskers-in-the Burg 10 years ago. Getting to create, help others design and build their own Giant Puppet are just a few things i enjoy in the collaborative and creative environment that is Blue Bear Puppet Lab. Everyone who comes into the Lab is made welcome and put to work. Whether it is tearing paper for paper mache or putting on a giant puppet for an event downtown I feel at home with fellow artists and puppeteers.
