Mission: Through community partnerships and the effort of volunteers, we promote bicycle access, education, safety and the enjoyment of cycling to the children and adults of sw washington. In simple terms, that translates to getting more people out riding bikes.
Programs: School safety course for over a decade we've taught hundreds of kids a year how to ride safely and responsibly during gym class. Bcc helps p. E teachers develop bike safety courses usually ocnducted during p. E. Class. The program consits of classroom-based lessons, bike practice on the playground and culminates in a group neighborhood ride around the school. Bcc assists with helmets for each participant and provides a fleet of matching, well maintained training bicycles. Our volunteers coordinate with schools to deliver the bikes, perform helmet fitting and get the class rolling along.
earn a bike camp participants in the earn-a-bioke program receive a free used bike, gain bike maintenance skills, and volunteer with a great organization by equipping participants with repair skills and introducing them to bike clark county, the earn-a-bike program contributes to bcc's mission to empower community members with increased education and access to bikes as reliable, affordable transportation. This 8-hour program teaches more than just bicycle maintenance. We believe our youth should be challenged to give back to their community. By working in our shop they are held accountable for their actions to show up on time, follow instructions and work as a team. They'll learn how to use toolas and basic repairs but they'll also work on leadership skills and self confidence. Upon completion of 8 hours of work they'll received a reburbished bicycle, a new helmet an dthe satisfaction of working on their own bike and doing something great.
bike to leadership vancouver youth have the opportunity to gain valuable life/work skills and obtain a cpr/first aid certification while also learning about basic bicycle mechanics and having fun by the end of the 8 week workshop, the youth will gain employable skills that will help them work withiin our community. Learning outcomes will fall into eight blocks of content mastery: bicycle maintenance and safety; health: cpr and first aid certifications, self regulation and healthy coping, health and fitness, substance abuse prevention; community outreach; teaching and mentoring; employability- interview skills, resume building, resentation, self-confidence; and advocacy for change-how local government works
