Mission: Youth matching/mentoring service organization
Programs: Community based program: volunteers (18+) are matched with a child of the same gender from 5-14 years of age. Matches spend 2-4 hours per week or 4-8 hours every other week doing activities in their community. These activities range anywhere from walks in the park, playing video games, going to the movies or possibly a camping trip later down the line. Matches can remain open until the little turns 19 years of age. School based program: our school-based program, known as the big buddy program, is where high-school students (7th-11th grade) are matched with elementary students (k-5th grade) and can remain matched until one completes 6th grade or graduates. They spend a minimum of 1-hour per week doing a variety of in-school activities such as: eating lunch together, working on homework/study skills, playing games and getting to know each other. Teachers report an increase in student motivation and academic achievement. Each month, our school-based case manager conducts an activity (craft or game) with all of the littles at that school. Currently we serve five school districts in bradford county (athens, canton, northeast bradford, towanda and wyalusing) as well as sullivan county. Additionally, in 2016, we launched our pilot big buddy program between r. B. Walter elementary and williamson high school in tioga, pa. For the 2016-2017 school year, we have already made 70 new matches across both programs. We are excited to continue serving the twin tiers and look forward to even more growth in the future
