Big Brothers Big Sisters of La Plata County (and Archuleta County) matches adult mentors to children in need of one-on-one mentoring. Bigs and Littles spend aprox. 3 hours a week together doing fun activities. In Colorado, there is no end to the outdoor activities available. Bigs and Littles also spend time just "hanging out," doing things together that may seem routine. The important thing is the time spent, not the activity per se. Children grow and learn from their adult mentor, who guides, directs, instructs, listens, and laughs with them. The results are amazing! Children gain in self-esteem, begin to see new possibilities in life, enjoy learning new things, improve their grades, improve social skills...the list goes on and on. It is a wonderful way to give to a child who needs special love and care.
