Mission: Bay area latino lawyers fund awards fellowships and grants to assist law students who desire to pursue a legal career working with underrepresented latino communities in the san francisco bay area. The grant allows law students to work during the summer months providing direct services to underrepresented communities. The grants and fellowships awarded also serve to promote the education and leadership development of the recipient law students. These students are also able to learn from the attorney mentors at the public interest organizations where they intern during the summer months, as well as learn client communication skills and get exposure to the substantive and procedural aspects of providing direct client services. The fellowships and grants awarded serve the public good by allowing law students to provide legal assistance to communities in dire need of legal assistance in areas such as housing, immigration, domestic violence and prisoners' rights.
Programs: During the 2014 year, the bay area latino lawyers fund awarded $23,500 in fellowships and grants for the charitable purpose of assisting law students who work with underrepresented latino communities in the san francisco bay area. The fellowships and grants enabled the students to work during the summer providing direct services to the underrepresented communities they serve.
