Causes: Health, Health Support
Mission: To eliminate health disparities by educating and strengthening the health care workforcce. Bahec provides interdisciplinary education programs that bridge academic, healthcare, and community settings to transform the health of underserved baltimore city and county.
Programs: Community health worker (chw) training: in 2017, bahec trained 66 (program completers) baltimore city and baltimore county residents to work in nine hospitals under the baltimore population health workforce collaborative. Over eighty percent of alumni are employed in the healthcare field and seventy four percent in the hospitals that are part of the collaborative. Partnered with baltimore city local health department to how a chw annual conference with 114 participants. Partnered with state of maryland department of health to ensure chws were trained in diabetes and hypertension awareness.
interdisciplinary health professional training: work with staff and faculty from all seven university of maryland baltimore professional schools to provide interdisciplinary training on opioid overdose prevention. Held two events for over one hundred students and dispensed narcan (in partnership with university of maryland medical center) to over 30 students. Bahec is a certified overdose response program with the state department of health.
community based clinical education of medical students: bahec works with seventeen physician volunteers that provide primary care rotations and training for university of maryland medical students. Forty five students were placed in clinical rotations for two or four week rotations.
