spring classic ballet and minnesota dance festival: this year our spring classic was a restaged version of excerpts from paquita. We perform this concurrently with the minnesota dance festival; historically one of the largest gatherings of young dancers and professional dance artists in the upper midwest. This event brings together dancers, teachers, choreographers, directors, and set and costume designers from a variety of dance organizations for the purpose of sharing ideas, techniques, creative hopes, and ambitions. Nearly 400 students and community outreach individuals attended our reduced ticket price matinee.
the fall concert: this year we performed at the university of minnesota student center, st. Paul campus. Performed to over 500 people, the performance showcased a variety of dance works (including classical ballet and contemporary dance styles) featuring original choreography by andrew rist. Dedicated to the veterans, mr. Rist selected several music pieces with references to war, family, and service to convey our gratitude for their service to our country. A portion of the proceeds from this concert was donated to the minneapolis va health care system. The fall concert is the kickoff to our performance season. It is a free concert intended to make the arts accessible to the entire community, to act as a thank you to our loyal patrons, to attract new audiences, and to promote the season ahead.
