Causes: Community & Neighborhood Development, Economic Development
Mission: Bida provides public support by building community through a vibrant downtown; facilitates local involvement in downtown interests; and promotes the aesthetic design and economic vitality of the downtown corridor.
Programs: Bida produces annually events such as girls' night out; 3rd of july street dance; trick-or-treat downtown; the downtown tree lighting; holiday open house with santa photos; the holiday passport program; and the monthly art walk. These events promote downtown as the community's gathering place, encourage a positive image for downtown, and promote business-generating activities, supporting the downtown as a service and retail center. The events fit within our mission of "building community through a vibrant downtown" by promoting downtown as the heart of bainbridge island - a special place to live, work, shop, invest, and play.
for the past 13 years, bida has published and distributed the "bainbridge island downtown walkabout guide. " since 2004, 80,000 walkabout guides have been distributed annually statewide, with an emphasis on seattle hotels, washington state visitor centers, cruise and ferry terminals, and local businesses. The walkabout guide supports a vibrant downtown by encouraging visitor traffic and business referrals.
bida has been integrally involved with helping maintain the beauty and accessibility of the downtown corridor by developing a "streetscape" program. The program involves maintaining plants and flower baskets along the mainstreet of bainbridge island as well as street signage encouraging community involvement and presence in the downtown corridor. This program supports our mission to "promote aesthetic design" and "facilitate local involvement in downtown interests. "
other program service revenue is derived from various support services provided to the downtown community such as hanging over-the-street banners; a buy-local campaign; developing and maintaing a local "kiosk" program to encourage toursim to the island and promote visability for the island; and a hosted concierge program to encourage off-island promotion of our community to tourists.
