Mission: The association of tribal archives, libraries, and museums is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. It provides culturally relevant training programs and services that help preserve and advance indigenous cultures.
Programs: 2016 international conferences of indigenous archives, libraries, and museums held in phoenix, az october 9-12 on gila river indian community was attended by over 800 individuals. Programming included summits on nagpra and language, and preconference workshops/tours to local institutions such as the heard, huhugam heritage center and arizona state museum. Main days of programming were on the 11th and 12th with over 90 sessions offered. Note that there is an overlap between years as the conferences are held in october. to honor recently deceased native children's book author, greg rodgers, books were given in his name to tribal libraries.
2017 international conferences of indigenous archives, libraries, and museums outside of albuquerque, nm on the santa ana pueblo lands. The conference will take place october 9-12 and is expected to be attended by approximately 700 individuals. Programming will include federal meetings/forums, preconference workshops and sessions devoted to topics relevant to tribal archives, libraries and museums. one of atalm's current special projects is support of a "excellence in native history" award for the oklahoma national history day program. This award is given in recognition of demonstrated excellence in the study of native history. Two $250 prizes were awarded to an outstanding individual or group project in both the junior and senior divisions that documents and analyzes the native american experience.
