other programs include kids on the block is a puppet-based activity which educates children at local schools on various topics relevant today such as bullying divorce and disabilities operation summer reading is a program carried out with the whittier city library system each summer there are special events and programs to foster a love of books and reading the bookmobile program provides library books on a monthly basis to residents of local senior housing facilities in addittion t he chapter provides an annual gift to the whittier city library system by purchasing large print books and other media benefiting senior readers the gift was 4000 in the year ended may 31 2012 the dental puppets program focuses on dental hygien e education each year a puppet show to tell the tooth is presented at each elementary school in the whittier area to all second graders in addition to the show each child receives a toothbrush& tooth paste and dental floss the student heal th program provides assistance to local schools in the form of individual treatment packages for treatment of head lice holiday gifting program is carried out by the auxiliary in cooperation with the salvation army who identifies several families in need and the auxiliary provides gifts clothing toys and gift cards for food to each family during the year the auxiliary served 5 families with total expenses of 2250
