Programs: Sights and sounds - screens for vision and hearing problems, refering children to doctors for evaluation. These services are offered free to preschool children in sonoma county. Our professionally trained volunteers screened 811 children attending 34 preschools.
operation school bell - is the national philanthropy of assistance league. The program provides new common dress clothing and other items, as requested by the schools,to eligible elementary and middle school children in the santa rosa and roseland school districts. During the 2016-2017 school year, 1862 students were outfitted. In addition, the program provided 8 tickets to project graduation celebrations in santa rosa city high schools.
booster bags - boosts the spirits of women and children in crisis by providing backpacks/bags containing food, toiletries and clothing. Additionally gift certificates to our local assistance league thrift shop as well as bus tickets were provided. During the year ended may 31, 2017, this program distributed 492 backpacks/bags and 1220 bus tickets to the following local shelters: ywca, women's emergency shelter and living room. Also 90 thrift shop gift certificates were redeemed.
bright beginning: two projects are carried out under bright beginnings. Wee wardrobe - fills the needs of teen parents participating in the teen parent connections program of the county of sonoma department of health services. During the year ended may 31, 2017, this program provided 50 baby layettes and 74 christmas gifts including toys, pajamas, and books. Scholarship - provides financial assistance to eligible teen mothers at santa rosa junior college and/or sonoma state university. During the year ended may 31, 2017 two scholarships were awarded totally $3,000.
safe haven - this program serves women in recovery from addiction at the womens recovery services. During the year ended may 31, 2017, forty women and 18 children participated in the program. Four dinners were provided during the year. Each dinner served approximately 25 women and 5 children and required hands on preparation and exhibited a balanced healthy diet. The women were provided with books required by the program to assist in the recovery.
