Mission: Assistance league of downey, established in 1953, is a non-profit organization of volunteers who, in addition to their fund-raising efforts, provide for and adminster vital, quality services for people in need in the downey area.
Programs: H. O. M. E. - this program is designed to provide temporary low cost housing for families of patients or out-patients coming from outside the area who are receiving treatment at rancho los amigos national rehabilitation center. H. O. M. E. Is a ten unit facility which is owned and operated by the assistance league of downey and is adjacent to rancho los amigos medical center. 550 individuals were provided lodging.
christmas distribution - provides holiday gifts to the needy in the downey community. Gifts are purchased and wrapped for people of all ages and distributed to a variety of facilities including health care, homeless and battered women shelters plus disadvantaged children. 600 agencies served.
operation school bell - this program provides clothing and personal hygiene products to children in extreme need, those who are struggling to remain in school and are facing problems because their families cannot afford clothes. Served more than 255 children.
