Mission: To excite young people in materials, science, and engineering careers. Created in 1952, for over 50 years the foundation has developed and operated innovative programs in education. Services to the public include, but are not limited to: undergraduate scholarships, leadership training grants, grants to enable k-12 teachers to bring materials into classrooms, grants to asm student chapters, annual recognition awards to high school teachers. The signature program is asm materials camp, this educational outreach program has served over 2,000 high school students, and almost 1,000 high school science teachers. Typically the program involves 40+ hours of lab-based hands on instruction, scheduled over 5 days. Both residential and non residential formats are offered. All programs are provided as a public service at no cost to the participant.
