Mission: Asian women united of minnesota (awum) is a community based nonprofit organization committed to ending violence against women and children, empowering asian women and girls, and building stronger, safer communities. Awum's efforts are focused on empowering asian women in minnesota via community, legal, and immigration advocacy, outreach and education, support groups, and services to victims of domestic violence. Through various programs, awum works to increase awareness, provide services, and bread down the cultural barriers that exclude and stereo-type asian women and girls.
Programs: House of peace - provided shelter to approx 150 women and children. This year we saw several very complicated cases involving trafficking and immigration issues. Community advocacy (cap) - continued to see high volume of participants in the metro area and a few in greater minnesota. Strengthened partnerships with local organizations to expand our reach.
