Programs: Asbury foundation supports the overall charitable activities of asbury atlantic, inc. , asbury solomons, inc. , inverness village, inc. , calvert county nursing center, inc. , and asbury communities, hcbs, inc. Through its charitable fundraising efforts. Asbury foundation raises funds to help underwrite the benevolent care program for the supported continuing care retirement communities (ccrc's) and home care services within the asbury communities, inc. System. The benevolent care program provides confidential financial assistance to seniors being served by asbury, who, through no fault of their own, have outlived their resources. See schedule o. The benevolent care program enables seniors in need of financial support to live with peace of mind that their housing, service, and health care needs are met. In 2016, asbury foundation provided $2,719,797 in benevolent care assistance to residents in the asbury communities, inc. System. Additionally, $6,480,349 was provided in unreimbursed services to those served in skilled nursing. The foundation raised $3,611,602 in 2016 to offset the cost of benevolent care and unreimbursed services provided to residents in need. Endowment funds in the asbury system provided an additional $1,036,047 in assistance. Asbury foundation conducts capital campaigns for renovations of buildings where resident services are provided. In 2016, asbury foundation released from restriction $1,581,950 in capital support to help fund several resident life projects. At bethany village funds were secured and released to build the richard d. Rife community center. The community center will serve as a central hub to support wellness programming at bethany village, a continuing care retirement community in mechanicsburg, pa serving 700 older adults, and the residents of bethany towers, a hud low income housing facility for seniors located at the entry to bethany village. The community center will also be open for use by community groups in central pennsylvania. The foundation has also undertaken a capital campaign at springhill, a ccrc located in erie, pa. The campaign is securing support for a therapeutic aquatic therapy center to support wellness for the seniors served at springhill. Additionally, an outdoor recreation center will be funded by the campaign. At inverness village in tulsa, oklahoma, the compassionate caring campaign was conducted to enhance resident centered care in assisted living and skilled nursing. At asbury methodist village, a ccrc located in gaithersburg, maryland, capital funds were raised to help renovate wilson healthcare center, the skilled nursing center. The warren ebinger chapel was dedicated to serve the spiritual needs of asbury residents, associates, and families. The ebinger chapel is larger than the chapel it replaced and designed to accommodate individuals with mobility and other physical impairments. In 2016, asbury foundation awarded $45,610 for scholarships for 38 asbury associates. The primary area of support was for associates pursuing careers in health care. These scholarships help asbury meet a national shortage in qualified applicants for careers in health care. The scholarships ease the financial burden working individuals face in specialized degrees often while supporting families. Scholarships are also awarded to associates pursuing careers outside of health care.
