Mission: Using art to promote education and creative expression as well as building self confidence, respect for others and community peace for "at risk" and troubled youths.
Programs: Transforming education and creating social change by developing strengths in underserved youth and adults, through the integration of arts, recreation, technology and entrepreneurship. Creative entrepreneur program - youth employment for 14-20 year olds from impoverished homes throughout monroe county. Young people work collaboratively in teams with managing artists as apprentices to learn about and actively work to start a business in the disciplines of arts & technology, including graphic design, web design, animation, silk screened t-shirts, culinary arts, landscape design, visual arts / design & production (jewelry, furniture, clothing, boxes, notecards, framed prints, etc. ), mural painting, etc. Youth learn life and work skills, while developing a business plan, a name and company identity, conducting market research, marketing and selling products and services, and presenting the business to the community. The program is inclusive of youth with emotional, mental health, learning, juvenile justice, and developmental challenges. In-school arts learning and arts & technology integration programs - teaching artists work with schools and provide training, coaching and direct service delivery of arts-centered learning and arts integration, within rural and urban districts, including rochester city school district, elmira city school district, watkins glen, etc. The cypher: downtown youth arts initiative - a downtown-based, after-school expansion of the creative entrepreneur program where youth (13-20) explore a variety of arts & technology offerings. Offers a safe place to come after school, get a snack, homework assistance, creative activities, and a warm meal. Youth and adults work together to plan, design, and create the projects and public events. Cypher includes the possibility project-rochester, which is an affiliate of the national tpp, which is a teen (13-19) leadership development program where young people write original scripts and songs based on stories from their own lives, choreograph dances, and create a musical theatre production. Youth also engage in community action projects. Artpeace shakedown - largest county-wide high school art exhibit; week-long exhibit of 2d, 3d and digital art work and live performances by young artists (dance, slam poetry, music, etc. )
