the office of alumni affairs operates the barracks sutler gift shop as a benefit to members of alumni affairs (formerly the alumni association) and also as a gift shop for the general army war college population. The college uses the sutler store as a source of gifts and mementos for speakers, trip visits to washington, dc and new york city, and guests of all kinds. The alumni affairs office uses the gift shop as an incentive for membership. Alumni members receive 20% off the purchase of most items in the store. Anything priced over $300 is discounted 10% for members. During fy17, there were approximately 460 separate items for sale and 20 items sold on consignment in the store. A select number of the nonconsignment items were also sold via an online store. Members were provided a coupon code in the magazine to use when purchasing items online. When applied at checkout, this code gave the same discount that members received in the sutler store. The office of alumni affairs offers a competitive scholarship program for children of lifetime members. During fy17, there were 28 scholarships awarded, for a total of $16,000.
