Carlisle Area Family Life Center is such an important part to so many needy families. It offers diapers, formula, and an abundance of baby items so that women know that someone cares for them and their needs. The Center also provides information about resources available to them in the community as well as giving free ultrasounds. We are all volunteers working there except for two paid staff. It is very rewarding volunteering at this facility because we are helping women and families when they most need it.

I fell in love with the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) after seeing a few rehearsals in their studio. I'd been exposed to CPYB gradually, meeting some of the faculty and staff, attending an open house, which included a few dance steps, and eventually seeing a live performance. But it wasn't until I saw these students in rehearsal that I 'got it.' At one rehearsal founder Marcia Dale Weary pulled her chair beside mine and pointed out things a novice would not initially notice. However, a novice could easily see how focused these students were on trying to execute their movements properly. They did not whine or moan when corrected, they worked harder under the dutiful eyes of the faculty trying to get it right. From the older students hoping to join a ballet company soon to the six and seven year old students who were already performing basic moves, these students worked hard at their craft. With this introduction to CPYB I could see how the work ethic and maturity of these young people would serve them well in the future. The vision of "changing lives through dance" is truly alive at CPYB.

I have volunteered for this organization for over 12 years. My parents use to foster dogs for them and placed over 250 dogs in forever homes. Wyatt there Golden Pyrenees was a Rescue from there he lived 13 years. Gabby my Dad’s Black Lab is a foster failure they had over a year that they decided to adopt because know one else adopted her. All our rescues are placed in foster homes, until adopted.

I first became aware of Project SHARE in 2001. I started as a volunteer. I helped some with distributing food and gleaning. I have fond memories of getting to know staff and other volunteers. What moved me was the profound love modeled by the staff. Our community is blessed to have an organization that pours into the lives of other people as they do. Now, I serve as a volunteer, as a donor, and as a member of the board. This is truly a mission focused organization.

I found the program, "Home Again" last year in the newspaper when i was going through Chemo. I need things done around here that i couldn't afford to hire someone to do. I submitted my application with my $50.00 application fee, and found that i was eligable for help. The Executive Director, Jerry Nichols came to my house to see what needed to be done. One of the things i need was a new roof on my shed being i live in a mobile home, that the only storage i have. First he told be, "we dont do roofs", but when he came back again, that story changed, and they did the shingles on the shed. That was the only thing that he did right. I have old crappy windows in my mobile home, but all i was asking for was new screens, being they were all rotted. I had read an article online where they went to a home in Shippensburg, remodeled the kitchen, and replace all of the windows. Then this past summer there was an article on their website where they went to Newville , added a room to a mobile home and replaced all of their windows, with new double hung windows. Well i coundnt even get Jerry to replace all of my screens, he said he had to do what was most cost effective! The screens that he did do, a total of 4, were done in spurts by him, then he would return them and put them in the windows, and when i said that there were spaces where bugs could get in, he just said, well, they are old. Next my back steps and front deck were falling apart, he had some volunteers come out and change some of the wood and put lattice work around the deck, well the lattice work was not put on right and was buckling in and out, and when i said something to him on the phone, he said maybe he could tape it or glue in before painting it. when he came here and i showed him what i was complaining about, he said that there was nothing he could do about it, and i told him that the problem was, it wasnt put on right, and he said, "Well, you could hire someone to do it." He was very rude. He was also suppose to have people come here to paint the old wood, well, they never showed up, and he said thats what happens when you have volunteers, so he came her himself to paint the deck, half ass, i might add, he didnt get the old paint that was peeling off, nor did he wash any of the mold off, plus he didnt care that he was getting paint on my mobile home that was splashing off of the roller. Just because i wasnt paying for this, doesnt mean that i dont deserve to be treated with dignity. Just because i wasnt paying for this doesnt mean that i wanted a half ass job were i shouldnt care what it looks like. My tub has a crack in it, he was going to replace it, my tub is beige, and so is the sorounding wall, He said he got me a tub, a white tub, when i asked about the sorounding wall, he said he didnt get it. Then i asked if this was a plumber who was putting the tub in, he said no, that it was someone who had done work for him before, then the story changed, if i wanted the surrounding wall to match the tub, if his guy did it, then he would get it, but if i wanted a plumber, no surrounding wall to match. Well i said his guy could do it if he thought he was good. Well down the road that changed, and Jerry said he was gonna get me a plumber, he asked if i knew of one, and i gave him the name of one i have used before, and i also told him that they are not cheap. I sure he already knew that. The price the plumber gave Habitat was more than they were willing to pay, Jerry said that i could keep the tub, and he would even go out and get me the surrounding wall if i knew someone that could do the work. If i knew someone, i would have already done it. I told him that he could come and get the tub that he just dropped off in my yard one day, without saying a word. When he came here, he said something about what he had to finish on the deck, and i reminded him that the back steps had to be finished painting too. Jerry Nichols has always done everything at my mobile home, "Half Ass" i dont know if he didnt think that i deserved the repairs or what? He has always treated me like a non deserving second class citizen. I dont know how some people can get all new window in their homes, and i coudn't even get all the screens replace, and by the way that was the cheapest of the jobs that i asked him to do. I would not recommend him to anyone! My neighbors have laughed about the work that he did, and my sister most recently visited from another state, and she also said what a sloppy job he did.

Students from our school district have participated in History Day for several years. Through History Day, sponsored by the Army Heritage Center Foundation, our students have gained a greater love for history as well as the excitement of meeting other people and competing with them.

The Friends of Bosler Library have been promoting the activities and programs of the Bosler Library for many years. Our Bookery sells used books and recycles them to raise money for the Children's Summer Reading Program, to support author visits, and to provide funding for the library's operating expenses and special projects. Our community has supported the library by generously giving through its Auctions held every three years. The Friends have raised money for building campaigns, adult programs, and our monthly Booked for Lunch program and much more.

Being in this program has been really interesting. I have learned a lot about being a CNA and a lot about myself. (mailed in to TFEC and entered by an employee)
