Mission: To promote the general welfare of all persons with intellectual disabilities in colbert and lauderdale counties of northwest alabama
Programs: The arc has four residential options: semi-independent living, supervised community living, group homes and residental one on one. Together they provide residential services for participants ranging from mild developmental disabilities to participants with intellectual disabilities in need of one on one care. During 2017, the arc served 34 residents. The arc operates 19 residential homes. Sixteen of those homes are owned by the arc. They constructed one new group home which was fully funded through fundraising and donated services.
hope haven adult training center provides education and training for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Hope haven focuses on integration into the community in an effort to enhance social skills. Participants are assisted with becoming as independent as possible. Job coach training is also provided to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining employment. During 2016-2017, hope haven served 74 participants.
the special olympics provides for opportuities in the special olympic games for persons in the area that qualify to compete. In the current year 280 atheletes of all ages participated in the special olympics. In addition more than $83,000 was raised through a related golf tournament to provide funding for a new residential home.
