I have had the opportunity to volunteer at Another Option, Inc d.b.a Pathways to Another Option and Frugal Finds Thrifts Shop. What a wonderful and fulfilling opportunity.
My experience with Another Option was really life changing. I was in the process of rebuilding my life after serious financial difficulties. I finally received a call from a company that I’ve been perusing employment for sometime. I set my interview date, but when I pulled out my suit it reflected my struggles to find suitable employment. I really needed to feel and look my best for this opportunity. I have benefitted from Another Option in the past, so I reached out again. Without hesitation I was invited to come in and pick out a suit, tie, and shoes. Needless to say, I felt like a million bucks walking into my interview. I landed the job and position, and my life have been on the upswing ever since. I thank Marjorie and her staff for her works with me and with the community. This is a top notch organization because the services they provide comes from the heart.
Pathways has helped me with learning how to use a computer to check emails, perform job searches and my resume for employers. I have received on the job training in customer service. They were able to get me online job skill training at no cost to me. They helped me with bus passes, payment for room and board when I was in transition then they helped me with a permanent apartment. They also find companies willing to interview me. I also received clothes, furniture and professional attire.
When I walked into the store I was immediately struck by the fresh smell!! Most thrift stores have a smell that I cannot place. I am not sure if it is the chemical used to clean donations or the absence of items being cleaned. At any rate, the atmosphere alone was a catalyst for my involvement.
I've had the opportunity to beinvolved with Another Option for years. The commitment of this organization is outstanding.
Homeless people have been helped to find housing.
Unemployed have been given solid leads for job opportunities and supplied with business attire at no cost to look professional.
Hungry have been fed from the inhouse food bank.
AARP members receive on the job training while receiving financial benefits from AARP.
This organization even provides online job training at no cost to clients that have limited financial ability.
Help with utilities, bus passes, even household items have been donated to help in any way possible.
I would like to tell All how much The Job Training Program through Pathways has helped me and enstowed my own personal esteem.
Before I started the program I was living in a Mens Center. Penniless , down so low with little hope and no thought of a future. With Dr. Marjorie Gillingham's patience, caring, direction and spirit I have attained a job, a bicycle and Bus Passes(transportation) selfworth and a path for a good future.
I never like to discuss my age because I don't feel my age. My way of thinking is,"If you have your health and a job , anything is possible.
Fortunatly due to Pathways To Another Option I have a job and I 'm lucky enough to maintain my health.Dr. Marjorie has helped me keep a healthy attitude also. Ronald E, Moyer 03/11/2011
I was looking every where for clothes for my son but Im currently unemployed so my budget is low and I seen the store while driving by and walked in and was surprised to see how clean and neat the store was the items where in good condition and the prices were perfect! for my budget I was able to get my son 3 outfits all under $40 the volunteers were extremely nice and helpful I just wan to say thank you again for all your help and I really appropriate it.
Pathways is a skill development and training organization. We encourage and support those in need of a hand "up". In today's economic times, most can sure use a hand "up".
I've volunteered at this organization in the past. I was laid off over a month ago and all my bills were behind, some of my utilities were off and my rent was coming due. I was assisted by this organization with some of my utilities and what they weren't able to assist with they referred me to other organizations to assist me. I was just offered a temporary job that was to start asap that was pretty far away. They assisted in providing me gas and assistance with parking. Being that I have two kids this was a God send. I'm glad they were able to help me and know that others who are helped by them will benefit also. From a volunteer stand point I see how the community is coming together to assist with this program. I see how people flock to the store and how kids, parents and the elderly light up every time they enter the store. People rave about the pleasant family atmosphere and how welcomed they feel when coming to the store. I know that God will bless this program with additional resources and funding so that so many more people can be helped.

I have worked on the company structure for over 2 years now.
Within that time we have worked 80+ hours per week to ensure we are making the greatest impact on the community possible.
We have assisted many other businesses with resources/social media/partnerships. Our major impact and focus continue to be the beautiful people of our community. There is no way we could possibly ever feel satisfied with our current impact; no one could ever feel that satisfaction but God. However, we remain focused on our Mission and Goals and it is an absolute Honor to be an unpaid member of this organization.
To date we have assisted low income individuals in their time of need with the following services:
Professional Attire & Grooming for Interviews
Resume Writing
Employment Referrals
Mentoring Young Adults
Clothing
Furniture & Beds for Disabled
College Final Payment (Minor Balance)
Clothing for Hospital Trauma Units
Donations to other nonprofits
Community Service (court ordered) Assistance
Professionalism Counseling
Children Community Activities (Cooking & Music)
Community Beautification Services
Emergency Utility Assistance
Hotel Payment Assistance
Job Relocation Assistance
Canned Goods
Disney Tickets (Family Togetherness Campaign)

just want to say how thankful I am for Another Option. I was up against the wall with no place to turn. I was informed early May that my position was going to be eliminated. I starting beating the pavement looking for employment and was blessed to receive several interview opportunities. I’ve been out of the market of looking for a job for some time and my suits were out dated and unacceptable. A friend told me about Another Option and how they assisted her. I’m pleased to say that Dr. Gillingham is a wonderful woman and provided assistance for me to get a suit and a fresh haircut so that I would look my best during my interview process. Today I’m happy to say that my future is not as dark as it was a few weeks ago. Thank you again Marjorie and I will continue to spread the
My family and I were excited to have the opportunity to volunteer at Pathways To Another Option. We spent the morning as Merchandise Sorters/Organizers. Honestly, we really enjoyed helping out such a wonderful organization. Dr. Majorie Gillingham(the Founder) and her family have such positive attitudes and really want to make a difference in their community. We would enjoy the opportunity to volunteer there again.
I help with donation pick ups, securing the facility and loss prevention. I have witnessed first hand the assistance we provide those in need.
I've fabricated the corporate image for Pathways plus the current fund raising effort, Frugal Finds. There have been many swoops about town to deliver items or pick up donations. Current super activities include brainstorming, leaping over financial hurdles, jumping in with both feet and telling all the good people of East Valley about the heroes associated with this quality operation.
I was fortunate enough to contact Dr. Marjorie Gillingham through Craig's list. We were able to work out an great schedule for me to be part of the Pathways To Another Option story by answering the phone 2500 miles away! I so enjoyed my experiences working with Dr. Gilllingham. She is personable, caring, friendly and the consumate professional. We have had some great conversations about Pathways and what it's mission is. Such a great positive force in this day and age. Personal circumstances required that I give up this position, and I miss it quite a bit. I am hopeful that I can get out to Gilbert, AZ one day and see the entire operation! I am proud and privileged to have been even a small part of this awesome adventure.
My wife and I volunteered for this organization as part of the Disney "Give a Day Get a Day" Celebration. We helped to wash the windows for the storefront of the Frugal Finds Thrift Shop in Mesa AZ. We enjoyed working with this organization and helping our community...and of course, the trip to Disneyland!!!
