Mission: to engage Americans 55 years and older in volunteer service and to provide one-on-one support to children with special needs to improve their academic, social, or emotional development.
Results: Prior to 2020 and Covid 19 shutting everything down, keeping the volunteers as well as the students from entering the schools, in 2019 the Foster Grandparents served 221 children in elementary schools, afterschool programs and non-profit day care centers, resulting in 206 students with improved academic performance in literary studies and/or math
Target demographics: Children who are struggling academically, emotionally and socially
Direct beneficiaries per year: 75 children. Due to Covid restrictions, we were not allowed to enter many of the schools we normally serve.
Geographic areas served: Our office is located in Lake Charles, LA and we serve the parishes of Calcasieu, Jeff Davis, Acadia and Vernon
Programs: One-on-one assistance to the children that the volunteers are assigned to

Our school is a much better place with the Foster Grandparents involved!
