Mission: Some dangerous trends have emerged in our democracy: - The loss of citizens' rightful voice in government decision-making; - The ascendance of special interests and their ability to capture governance processes for democratic input; - "Public meetings" that have become forums for sound-bites, speeches and verbal fireworks as opposed to reasoned and inclusive discussion. AmericaSpeaks' 21st Century Town Meeting works to reverse these trends and give people real opportunities to influence the decision-making that affects their lives.
