Mission: American thoracic society, inc. Is an international professional and scientific society which prevents and fights respiratory disease through research, education, patient care and advocacy. The mission of ats is to improve health worldwide by advancing research, clinical care, and public health in respiratory disease, critical illness, and sleep disorders. Programs: International conference - to provide original research and education in respiratory and critical care medicine during the international conference. Annually, the organization holds the most prestigious respiratory and critical care conference offering programs for physicians, scientists and health care providers on topics in areas of pulmonary, respiratory, sleep, environmental/occupational health and critical care medicine. This international conference features six days of professional education and the opportunity for a critical exchange of information between pulmonary and critical care sleep specialists around the world. Presentations of original research in all respiratory fields are represented and special tracks in clinical medicine and critical care offer a focused program for clinicians and others.
educational publications - to publish educational journals on respiratory diseases. 1) american journal of respiratory and critical care medicine (ajrccm) - this official journal of the organization is published twice monthly and focuses on human biology and disease as well as studies that contribute to the understanding of the pathophysiology and treatment of diseases that affect the respiratory system and critically ill patients. 2) american journal of respiratory cell and molecular biology (ajrcmb) - an official journal of the organization, this monthly publication focuses on cellular, biochemical, molecular, developmental genetic and immunologic studies of lung cells and molecules. 3) the annals is an official international online journal of the american thoracic society, the annals of the american thoracic society (annalsats), formerly pats, delivers up-to-date and authoritative coverage of adult and pediatric pulmonary and respiratory sleep medicine and adult medical critical care. The scope of the journal encompasses content that is applicable to clinical practice, the formative and continuing education of clinical specialists, and the advancement of public health.
