Mission: The mission of the Central Virginia Chapter of the American Red Cross, founded in 1917, is to enable people throughout its jurisdiction to live safer, healthier lives, to cope with emergencies, and to return to normalcy. Services will be responsive to the needs of the people, consistent with the standards and mission of the American National Red Cross and guided by the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement. The American Red Cross is not a government agency, nor does the Red Cross receive funding from the federal, state or local governments. Our emergency services are free and made possible by donations of time and money from the American people.
