Mission: To present current basic, clinical and public health scientific research on hypertension and its associated cardiovascular diseases to investigators, scholars, and medical practitioners throughout the world.
Programs: The american journal of hypertension provides a forum for scientists and scholars to disseminate their most important advances in the field of hypertension and its related cardiovascular diseases. Academicians, scientists, and physicians throughout the world are the principle audience for the journal. Cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death throughout the world. High blood pressure, or hypertension, is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease. Rapid advances in understanding its causes and consequences, coupled with a growing capacity to both prevent and treat hypertension, have led to dramatic declines in the burden of heart disease and stroke. Ajh ranks third among all hypertension journals as measured by the frequency by which articles in ajh are referred to in publications by other investigators. At the same time, facilitated by electronic distribution by libraries throughout the world, some 30,000 readers access the journal each month. Both authors and readers are distributed relatively equally between the americas, europe, and asia. The ajh is a rigorously peer reviewed journal. Thus, each scientific submission is reviewed by one of three executive editors in collaboration with the editor-in-chief. In addition, each manuscript is subject to external review by at least 2 authorities in the field. Slightly more than 1/3rd of papers are ultimately selected for publication. Ajh is published and distributed monthly by the oxford university press. Some 180 original scientific articles, as well as editorials, scholarly reviews, and letters to the editors, are published annually. Ajh also has a formal cooperative agreement with the chinese hypertension journal to carry on scholarly exchanges, including the publication of selected abstracts of each others articles.
