Mission: Our mission is to preserve the Amache site; educate about Amache's history and legacy, preserve survivors' stories and through the amache.org website; and support maintenance of the Amache site and Museum managed by John Hopper and his Granada High students, who are known as the Amache Preservation Society. Official National Park Service Friends and Philanthropic partner.
Results: • Successfully worked with the National Park Service to establish the Amache National Historic Site and ribbon cutting ceremony during the annual pilgrimage Relatives of Japanese Americans incarcerated in Amache find common threads with descendants of the Sand Creek Massacre — which occurred just 46 miles away — during annual Amache pilgrimage. https://coloradosun.com/2023/05/23/amache-camp-sand-creek-massacre/ Amache and Sand Creek achieved historic National Historic Site designation under the same regional supervision, this led the Amache Alliance to start a cultural exchange during the pilgrimage in hopes of it leading to more formal and substantive engagement. Target demographics: Families preserve their memories of the WWII Amache National Historic Site
Direct beneficiaries per year: Establish the Amache National Historic Site with the National Park Service and helped organize the annual Pilgrimage for over 350 people. Cleaned the barracks, rec. hall, and cemetery areas.
Geographic areas served: Nationwide collaboration to support the Colorado Granada High School's Amache Preservation Society caring for the WWII Amache site and museum
