Mission: To advance the educational and philanthropic pursuits of all members of alpha sigma tau by funding initiatives that impact their lives. Funded solely by donor support, the foundation offers scholarships and, also, critical financial support for many of the sorority's educational programs.
Programs: In 2017-18 the foundation awarded 38 scholarships totaling $38,250 to collegiate and alumnae sisters pursuing undergraduate or graduate level degrees. The scholarships support members struggling with rising costs of higher education and help women achieve their academic goals to become the leaders of tomorrow.
the foundation funded educational programs offered by the alpha sigma tau sorority in the following areas. The illuminate program is a four-year member development program, offering personal and professional growth for collegiate sisters. Illuminate is rooted in eight leadership competencies and equips each participant with the proven leadership skills she needs to become the woman she aspires to be. Thanks to our support, more than 80% of the collegiate members experienced this life-changing program in 2017-18. The not anymore program is an engaging online program designed to educate members on sexual assault and relationship violence. It uses honest and compelling video tutorials to educate members and volunteers about consent, sexual assault, bystander intervention, and healthy relationships. Greeklifeedu is an online program that offers new members objective, science-based courses addressing the critical issues of alcohol awareness, sexual assault, and hazing. It provides simple strategies to help students achieve behavior-change objectives, teach students to practice safe decision-making, and empower students to make well-informed decisions. During the 2017-18 fiscal year, the foundation also funded educational speakers for the sorority's officer academy in such areas as people smart, social excellence, and fierce confrontation.
I've been excited to see the changes in the Foundation, and the efforts to support the members with the Annual Fund. I've been so excited that I've become a monthly donor to the Annual Fund as well as special programs like scholarships. They have a low overhead and funds go directly to member advancements! I've met women who have been personally changed by the service immersion programs and officer/advisor academies. They are making a member level difference in how members understand women's leadership.
