Mission: The Haines House is the most historically significant building in the City of Alliance and one of the oldest in Stark County, Ohio. The lives lived within its walls tell much of the story of America's first hundred years: westward expansion, economic opportunity, Abolitionism, the Underground Railroad and Civil War. Once a lone farmhouse on a hill surrounded by 126 acres and was the focal point for Abolitionist and Underground Railroad activity in the Alliance area, it now sits as one of over 300 homes in a residential neighborhood in the heart of Alliance. Through the efforts of a diverse group of citizens, the Haines House is being transformed into a community center and museum of Underground Railroad and local history. This group is doing more than save a nice old house. Their activities are focused on making the Haines House the lively embodiment of ethnically, racially and socially diverse people exploring their shared heritage for the benefit of the community
