Programs: 2017 camp rice family culture camp: the 8th camp rice took place on july 27 through 29 with attendees of over 200 participants including staff members, children, teens and their adoptive parents. The theme of 2017 was "chronicles of korea" and truly love was everywhere during the three days. The camp planning team (kyungock hollenbeck, jill lehman, erika shugart, ginny wahl and eunjung choi) did the great job from coordinating guest speakers answering questions from campers, teachers and volunteers and serving campers during the camp days. Susan shulken helped with sending emails, reviewing camp schedule and creating and collecting evaluations. A couple of highlights of the camp, senator hoonyoung hapgood from michigan (d) attended as a guest speaker. He was adopted from korea and grew up in michigan. Two visitors from a korean orphanage visited camp rice again. Having these korean visitors last year received good feeback.
2017 korean culture school: semi-annual educational program that takes place monthly at 7009 wilson lane, bethesda, maryland. Participants learn about korean culture and about their adoptive heritage. Each semester we had about 38 volunteers, 80 parents, 66 children/teens. -program director eun jung choi managed volunteers and teachers. -parent program is managed by lauren power who has lined up presenters that include mental health and adoption by dr. Kimberly glass, mintaro oba, jisoo kim and
asia families' 3rd korea tour was led by grace song, kiku nam and lydia kim escorting 27 adoptive family members and 12 adult adoptees on june 24 -july 8, 2017 for 14 ground days. The adult adoptee tour was a bit shorter lasting from june 27 - july 8 for 11 ground days. Starting from seoul, we took the tourists to gyeonju and busan and went back to seoul.
