I went on a tour with ALDEA in March 2020 to visit indigenous communities in Guatemala and to see how donations to the organization impact the lives of the most vulnerable; women and children. I witnessed first-hand from the mouths of the villagers what the organization was able to do for them in terms of accessible and clean running water (some used to walk over 5 miles a day carrying back gallons of water on their heads), bathrooms to enhance sanitation of the village, gardens to improve variety of diet and nutrition, goats for milk protein to better nourish their children, and programs that train not only women on how to be leaders, but men on how to be better spouses and fathers. I was really impressed by my visit. Unfortunately with Covid-19, there is now an even bigger increase in need for these services.
