Mission: Alberta main street advances efforts to develop alberta street as a vibrant, creative, equitable & sustainable commercial district serving residents and visitors to our community.
Programs: Creating a sense of place. We brought people together to create a sense of shared ownership of our public spaces. We celebrated our street at the 20th annual alberta street fair which drew over 25,000 people to the district. We promoted alberta street to our neighbors living a block away and to visitors from around the globe. We are currently working on a historical and cultural markers project to honor and celebrate alberta street's african american history.
civic engagement activities and events. Alberta main street creates community-building opportunities for local residents to engage in their community. Ams hosted six community building events in 2016-17. Over 100 people threw on gloves and volunteered to clean up our community on earth day, participation at all of our events continued to rise, and last year 62 very committed volunteers served on our four program committees and board of directors.
supporting small businesses. We hosted 6 small business seminars to help owners run their business effectively and 6 mixers to build relationships among stakeholders. We awarded over 7,000 in matching mini-grants (leveraging 9,000 in private investment) to support small physical improvements to businesses and/or buildings. We provided one on one technical assistance and support to area stakeholders.
