Mission: The african alliance of rhode island exists to promote unity within the local african communities, to advocate for the rights of africans in ri, and to educate the american public about africa while elevating the profile of the continent and facilitating linkages between americans and africans.
Programs: Perform health disparities assessment for the african community in collaboration with the ri department of health. We conducted three health sessions, one for males that focus on access to care and prostate cancer and a female session that focus on access to care and breast cancer. We also have an annual health summit to discuss the issue of diabetes in the african community and how people and control the disease.
aari created the west end community garden project to help the transition process for refugees after 8 month of resettlement in the us. We help refugees assimilated in the community by interacting with the larger rhode island community and introducing them to activities they are familiar with from their home countries. We also embark on an education program call "growing what you eat" program to help youths in the diamond ave area understand the environment and the important of health eating.
