Mission: Founded to provide capital support for hill aerospace museum in roy, utah. This support provides for the museum's facility improvement, museum expansion, and projects for which air force funding is not available. Additionally our goal is to educate, excite and lead students and visitors into the world of flight and the ever-expanding knowledge of space.
Programs: The aerospace heritage foundation of utah purchased 6 new personal computer systems to be used in the lt. Gen. Marc c. Reynolds aerospace center for education simulator room. These systems included state-of-the-art personal computers, flight training software, yokes, and foot pedals providing an up-to-date flight simulator experience for young education center students. The foundation's plane talk lecture series continued throughout the first six months of 2017. Sixteen speakers spoke on various subjects relating to the u. S. Military, aviation, hill air force base and stem education. Foundation executive director, robb alexander, museum director, aaron clark, and museum curator, justin hall visited the leonardo museum on at the invitation of leonardo staff on january 26, 2017. They toured the museum's "flight exhibit. " good interaction took place on their exhibit development process that will be valuable as the hill aerospace museum develops its new museum exhibit program. Foundation executive director, robb alexander, presented an ongoing funding request to the business, economic development and labor appropriations subcommittee of the utah state legislature at the utah state capitol in salt lake city on february 3, 2017. The utah state legislature approved an ongoing, unrestricted appropriation of 175,000 to the aerospace heritage foundation of utah for the hill aerospace museum during the 2017 utah legislative session. Four equal payments will be distributed quarterly to the foundation beginning july 1, 2017. Utah a 75,000 request for funding was submitted to the weber county ramp (recreation, arts, parks and museums) committee for support of the museum's new exhibit development program. Foundation director presented the museum's case to ms. Danette pulley, the ramp committee liaison with the hill aerospace museum. The ramp board approved a 50,000 grant for the museum's exhibit development program. The annual utah museum advocacy day was held at the state capitol in salt lake city on february 28, 2017. Foundation executive director, robb alexander, museum director, aaron clark, and members of the aerospace heritage foundation of utah board of directors were in attendance presenting the story of the hill aerospace museum. More than forty museums from throughout the state of utah were in attendance. Two new smart boards (24,000 value) were donated to the lt. General marc c. Reynolds aerospace center for education by the state of utah's utah stem action center. A training session took place for the museum/foundation staff to become familiar with the technology and operating system of the boards. The aerospace heritage foundation of utah provided 2 laptop computers to be used with the new smart boards. The aerospace heritage foundation of utah participated in the 2017 love utah give utah campaign. The community foundation of utah sponsors this state-wide philanthropic day of giving. The goal of the day is to s to harness utah's entrepreneurial spirit in service to the common good through smart philanthropy. On-line contributions are made through the razoo web site and directed to the individual nonprofit by the individual donor. Close to 500 was gifted to the aerospace heritage foundation of utah for the hill aerospace museum. The aerospace heritage foundation of utah sponsored the annual easter egg hunt at the hill aerospace museum on april 8, 2017. More than 2,500 anxious and excited children hunted for 10,000 plus filled plastic eggs and other treats and prizes. Numerous community organizations supported the event by donating cash, prizes and candy. They included hershey's, larry h. Miller chrysler jeep dodge ram of riverdale, walgreen's, walmart, costco, mcdonald's and more. The annual nasa space grant consortium was held at weber state university in ogden, utah, on may 9, 2016. Students from utah state university, weber state university, university of utah and brigham young university presented papers relating to projects they worked on at their respective universities in the morning. The annual business meeting of the consortium took place in the afternoon. Foundation executive director, robb alexander, and foundation treasurer, audrey wolff attended the event. The nasa space grant provides 12,000 to the aerospace heritage foundation for student internships. The aerospace heritage foundation of utah worked with mackenzie exhibits in ogden to design and construct six new donation boxes to be located throughout the hill aerospace museum. The new boxes replaced donation boxes that had been at the museum for 20 plus years. More than 26,000 was contributed to the foundation by museum patrons in 2016. The aerospace heritage foundation of utah entered into a contract with creative services bureau (csb) to design new landing gear, icbm, and radar exhibits for the hill aerospace museum. Also, included in the contract is to establish an "overall style guide" for museum exhibits. Phase one and two funding is 19,300. The aerospace heritage foundation of utah and the hill aerospace museum sponsored a vietnam veterans salute celebration at the museum on april 29, 2017. More than 7,000 people attended. The event included vietnam era speakers including three former vietnam prisoners of war, col. (usaf retired) jay c. Hess, maj. (usaf retired) lynn beens, and lt. Col. (usaf retired) bill spencer. A local 60's, 70's era band, outrageous, performed three 45 minute sets. A number of the museum's vietnam era static display aircraft were open giving attendees a chance to get up close and personal with the planes and helicopters. Food trucks were also on hand for the patrons to enjoy food and drink of their choice. At the end of the day, names of each of the fallen utah military members read and recognized followed by the playing of "taps" to honor their memory and conclude the day's activities. The aerospace heritage foundation of utah and the hill aerospace museum internship program started off with a bang in 2017. The museum education interns, under the direction of foundation education specialist mark standing, have each been in three detailed lessons for magnetism, electricity, and weather. They have researched each subject far beyond the required scope and sequence of the utah state education standards for these subjects. All lesson plans are well researched and constantly updated with atotal of 5 revisions to date. The interns have practiced the recommended techniques for running, teaching, and controlling a classroom of nearly any size, age, and ability. Everyday our team brainstorms, prototypes, researches, and/or builds an improved component for our presentations. Our team has thoroughly researched each lesson topic. Experts in weather have explained complicated weather phenomenon and anomalies in order for us to better understand and teach these topics. Our education program offers two classes each day to museum patrons on various stem-related subjects. The interns teach these classes and are an integral part of the education curriculum. Our restoration interns, and curatorial interns have also been tremendous in the activities they have been assigned. The museum internship program has risen to new levels and is an invaluable asset. While it is clear that the interns have a positive effect at the hill aerospace museum, they are also extremely grateful and fortunate for the opportunity to create and run these programs. The flight line gift shop located at the hill aerospace museum went through a complete renovation during march and april 2017. New fixtures and wall coverings have made the gift shop a brighter, more enjoyable area in which to shop for museum-related gifts, clothing, models, etc. The aerospace heritage foundation of utah continued an advertising/marketing campaign on utah transit authority buses and light rail in 2017. Hill aerospace museum advertisements can be seen on the backs of busses in weber and davis county as was done in 2016. In addition, the 2017 campaign will include bussed in utah county. Exterior and interior advertising will continue on trax light rail in salt lake city. The campaign will take place through june, july, august and september 2017. On may 29, 2017, members of the aerospace heritage foundation of utah board of directors and executive director, museum personnel, hill afb personnel, along with falcon hill north developers met with the weber county commissioners to discuss the plans for falcon hill north and future expansion plans for the hill aerospace museum. The continuation of the hill afb eul project will use the museum as the anchor and showcase for the development. The plan is to go to the utah state legislature during the 2019 general session to request partial funding for the project.
